Commercial Description:
A Baltic porter brewed in collaboration with Lew Bryson. This style is difficult to find outside of the Baltics. What a shame! The grist consists of lots of Munich malt and some chocolate and other specialty malts. A Bavarian lager yeast is used to create this. Dark and mysterious, subtle and well, it is called the Hammer. For those who care, Perkuno was the Baltic thunder god.

A very dark brown pour with an off white head. A nice toasted malt aroma. A slightly sweet beer with a flavor of toastd malt. With a decent flavor of sweet chocolate. A decent mouthfeel but just a tad watery. A good beer I wish I could have sat down to a full one by myself. Thanks to someone from kps.

Heavyweight Brewing Co. Perkuno’s Hammer Imperial Porter Millions of thanks to froggyfrog for this the opportunity to try this amazing beer. This is only the second beer I have ever considered perfect. It is a 5.0 because I really don’t see any way to improve any of the characteristics. Allowed to warm and served in my snifter glass. Appearance: 5.0 Poured a chocolaty black into my snifter with a tan light chocolate head and spectacular lacing. Even on the pour the viscosity was magnificent. Few beer pour like a commercial but this is one sexy beer. Mmm! Smell: 5.0 From the moment I popped the cap my nose was *filled* with chocolate and with the pour came even more chocolate and berries and cherries and rum and molasses and coffee and dark bittersweet chocolate *again* some port or sherry, brown sugar a hint of smoky campfire, a touch of vanilla oak and loads more sending me completely out of this freakin world! The drool has collected in a poodle at my feet the aroma is that damn enticing! Taste: 5.0 The flavors follow the nose but grow even *more* in depth. It does not punch you in the face with flavor as hard as Rogue Impy Stout or DFH WWS does. This one creeps up inside your palate and explodes with flavors that blow up in face (or mouth). The initial taste for me was dark chocolate dipped berries, raspberries, cranberries, cherries, they blend together but it is magnificent. There is also a chalky malty feel of malted milk balls; roasty coffee, boozy port plum raisins, and toasted caramel. WWS has jack on this beer. The approachability, the ease of entry… This beer is like the trogen horse that sneaks in so easily (that is marvelously drinkable) and then erupts with ingredients you never expected from a ~ Baltic Porter ~?! Mouthfeel: 5.0 There must be something adulterous about Perkuno’s Hammer. I haven’t enjoyed anything in my mouth this much since my last affair with the Duchesse De Bourgogne. Easy silky malty chalky light and tart all at the same time. It is a joy to swirl in the mouth and impossible to resist more. Drinkability: 5.0 I am going to edit some other reviews. I *now* know what a drinkable beer *really* is. The bar has been raised. I have absolutely found a beer of beers and the brewery just closed. I am at a loss for words … (believe it or not) … Hope this is helpful. Cheers!

Bottle from trade with kmweaver. Thanks Ken! Pours a nice dark brown color with a decent tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate and molasses. Taste of candied fruit and roasted malts. Slightly sweet with the alcohol well hidden. Finishes cleanly with a hint of hop bitterness. This is a fantastic porter and a shame that it is retired. This is as good as porters get IMHO.

Bottle bottle pours a very dark brown with a thin tan head and nice lacing. Aroma is that slightly sour purple grape that I keep finding in many porters. Some cold campfire and soot, dark roasted hints as well. Flavor is sweet and dark roasted. Lacking the harsh bitterness. Very easy going down for a dark 8% brew. Soft lingering slightly sour bitterness that leaves just a hint.

Bottle: Dark brown, almost black in color with a light brown head. Grapey aroma as well as some burnt notes, faint coffee grounds, and rich, dark chocolate. A great taste for a porter. Roasted flavors, chocolate, mocha, deep fruit flavors of cherry and other tangy items, almost cough syrup-like. Thin and smooth. Nice. Thanks Indiana_Red!

Beautiful deep black amber at the edges and a pure black color with a thin creamed coffee colored head. Smell is amazing deep aroma of roasted coffee, chocolate, caramelized brown sugar and even a little hoppy. Flavor is an absolute pleasure with a more intense copy of the aroma with a hoppy middle that fades into a tasty long lasting finish that oscillates between bitter coffee and chocolate. This beer is delicious!
