Commercial Description:
A Baltic porter brewed in collaboration with Lew Bryson. This style is difficult to find outside of the Baltics. What a shame! The grist consists of lots of Munich malt and some chocolate and other specialty malts. A Bavarian lager yeast is used to create this. Dark and mysterious, subtle and well, it is called the Hammer. For those who care, Perkuno was the Baltic thunder god.

Courtesy of Secret Santa. Black/brown, brown edges, small light brown head. Heavily roasted malt, mocha, subtle vanilla. Not very complex, but very tasty. Creamy palate with enough carbonation to balance. Medium/full body. Excellent.

Darkish brown coarse mid-sized head over pitch black body. Milky chocolate earth aroma with a touch of caramel. Taste of alcohol with notes of chocolate, mint, and acidic burnt toast. Disappointingly little taste for an "imperial" porter. (0.355l bottle.)

Pours opaque black with small tan head that dissipates quickly. Sweet aroma is a blend of chocolate malts and fruits. Incredibly full-bodied with flavors of chocolate, raisins, prunes, and some molasses. Thick and creamy texture really sticks to your tongue and makes the flavor last. Very nice brew.

Bottle. This one really surprised me because I’m typically not a porter fan. Very nice robust aroma, beautiful scent throughout the whole experience. Very sweet with a good malt caracter. Very chocolatey. Very smooth considering the style. Slightly changes as it gets near room temp. Great beer that I need to get more of. Too bad Heavyweight is closing. Cheers!

Robe noire surmontée d’une mousse brune persistante. Arômes de pain et d’alcool. Saveurs de pain et d’autolyse. Aqueuse et acre.

Found this old bottle at New Beer with the old more cartoon like label (best guess 2002). Poured black but looked dark brown coming out. Almost no head that quickly turned into small lacing on the sides. Aroma is strong, a very strong sweet aroma. Similar to Oggi’s Witch Doctor. Slight oxidation present as well. The sweetness is part plum/raison with trace alcohol. Taste again is very sweet - plum/raison, mixed with lots of chocolate. Leaves my mouth with a strong sweet afteraste, some very slight roastiness as well. Medum body, nice mouthfeel, if anything I would prefer just a bit more body and a bit less carbonation but overall nice. This is one of the sweetest beer I have ever come upon (level of Witch Doctor and above Meph). Very slight burn in throat.

So this beer was so good that I had to go out yesterday and get a newer bottle just to see it fresh. Of course, it wasn’t as sweet (even though the sweetness was present). IMouthfeel was a bit oily as well. It was less complex but still a fine brew all around. I am just lowering the overall rating a bit to reflect this.
