A lot going on. Taste is licorice again, some toffee, and then a sour saltiness. Medium body with a good pop of alcohol. Dry dandelion leaves linger. eaglefan538 (2399), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 6, 2006 More of an American Imperial Porter than a Baltic, imo... this didn’t live up to the quality of the Utenos, Carnegie, Baltika, Synebrychoff, and Aldaris examples I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. Nice ruby black color, but the head was a bit weak. The aroma was hoppy and chocolatey. The flavor is much the same with a thick mouthfeel and a hoppy finish with some coffee as it warms. Too much roastedness and bitterness in there, not smooth enough for an authentic Baltic. Imposter beer, although overall it was tasty as an Imperial Porter. (Re-tasted, May ’06, same opinion, although I bumped up the overall, as it is worthy outside of the Baltic style.) kevin62 (267), New Jersey, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 25, 2006 Many thanks go to JHop for this one! Pours pitch black with a nice medium tan head that quickly fades to a thick film. Wonderful aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, dark fruits, toffee, and a bit of smoke. Similar in the flavor: coffee, dark chocolate, caramel malt, smoke and a touch of vinegar. Big body on this one: sweet and malty in the front...subdued throught the middle leading to a bittersweet/smokey dry finsih...full bodies and oily. A great after dinner sipper/dessert brew and give someof the impy stouts a run for their money. All in all...one of the best. NewCastle1 (59), Indiana, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 16, 2006 Bottle, I believe 2004. Very dark pour, light tan head, Vinous, earthy, sweet, candy, licorice aroma. Flavor is thin up front, but finished strong with a lot of sweetness, malts, a mildly roasty aftertaste. Not bad, not really too wonderful either. It’s too sweet. Needs to be more chocolatey, more silky on the palate, more like Youngbloods. harmfuldrunk (288), New Jersey, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | May 7, 2006 Bottle. Black color. The aroma is roasted, sweet, vinous and chocolatey with notes of rye and port wine. Excellent aroma. Full-bodied and heavy palate. Sweet and vinous flavor with salty licorice and port. Light bitterness and port wine in the finish. The initial impression of this beer was better, gradually this gets quite heavy.
