Commercial Description:
A Baltic porter brewed in collaboration with Lew Bryson. This style is difficult to find outside of the Baltics. What a shame! The grist consists of lots of Munich malt and some chocolate and other specialty malts. A Bavarian lager yeast is used to create this. Dark and mysterious, subtle and well, it is called the Hammer. For those who care, Perkuno was the Baltic thunder god.

Bottle. Pours black with a nice thick brown head. Aroma of dark roasted malt, coffee, and hardwood mulch...very stout like. Thick syrupy mouthfeel, light carbonation. Flavor of dark unsweetned chocolate, walnut, and some burnt malts. Finish is slightly bitter, dry, with some astringency that did not linger well. The finish was not to my personal liking, but overall a respectable beer from Heavyweight.

This is a pretty nice porter. Dark reddish, brown color. Thinnish tan head. Lots of malt in the aroma and a smattering of some chocolate. Maybe some fruitiness as well. Lots of malty flavors. Rather smooth finish.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry & Dave B. -- courtesy of Thaichile. Pours a a dark ruby-brown with an average size diminishing beige head. Wonderful aroma is roasty and oily along with malt, chocolate and some smoke. Flavour of roasted malt and chocolate’s not quite on the level of the aroma but it’s still pretty good, it just needs a tad more complexity. Medium to full bodied. Very enjoyable.

Poured hard leaving a cascading body that has a small tan head. The body is very dark almost black, the aroma is sweet, candied plum, apricot, and an anise backdrop followed by fig sweetness. The taste starts sweet with a distinct fig syrupy reduction in the forefront. There is a minimal hop presence but dominated with fig and a candied sugar finish. Overall this is a decent beer, I paired this beer with Tekka Maki sushi. The sweetness in the beer really paired well with the saltiness in the soy sauce and delicate tuna flavor in the fish.

Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy and Dave B, blankboy’s bottle. Very dark reddish-brown with a thin beige head. Rich, roasty, nut-oil malt aroma, slightly dry and lightly sour, dry leafy hops in there too. Taste is quite light, roasty and nutty with a bit of cola sweetness - mouthfeel is a tad watery, lightly acidic, very quick finishing. Pretty decent.

Bottle sampled at my house for beer night with Stegosaurus. Pours almost black with a dark tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, citrus, fruit, hops. Flavor is smooth, fruit, carbonated, bitter, chocolate and roast.

bottle. pitch black pour with thin tiny bubble tan head. coffee, dark chocolate, strong malts, sugary aroma. metalic, chocolate, coffee and sour. tart aftertaste that lingers too long. seems like they are trying too hard here.
