Dark roasted malts with chocolate, carmel, coffee and molasses in the aroma. Taste was of coffee, carmel, toasted malts and a lot of molasses.. A very tasty beer that goes down smooth. ryan (1781), Beltsville, Maryland, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 5, 2005 Pours black with a thin, quickly diminishing head. The aroma is heaps of chocolate and molases, some roasted notes and smoke. The flavor is very sweet chocolate, molases, lactose, licorice and smoke. The finish is long and bitter with a touch of acidity. Unfortunately, the sweetness is a bit overwhelming on this one. turbo (1254), Arizona, USA

Big aroma of sweet liquid smoke, licorice, caramel.
Ripe dark fruit and sweet roasty malt. flavor that becomes smooth and more easy drinking as it warmes, big roasty sweet finish. puzzl (2648), New York, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Nov 29, 2005 Rich aroma of chewy, sweet coffee and chocolate wafting from a thick mocha head on a pitch black body. Taste was strong with sweet coffee, maybe a little lactic or metallic though not necessarily unpleasant, just slightly unusual. Dry finish with a creamy mouth. A nice representation from a wonderful style of beer. BeerandBlues2 (3230), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 27, 2005 Bottle via Secret Santa. Pours near opaque with an edgy tan head. Dark roasted caramel and sweet chocolate malts, not allowing any other aromas to peek through. Dark roasted chocolate/caramel malt and sweaty, leathery yeast flavor, medium acidity and bitter lastilng finish. Dark and full bodied warm and spicy palate. Pinnhead (93), New Jersey, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Nov 25, 2005 minimal head no matter how one pours. slightly carbonated but not overly so this is a unique beer. similar in genre to the Harvest varieties in that it is a very heavy chimay. Consider it instead of a sherry with desert or as desert. jdjuice (203), Japan
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 18, 2005 Pours black with thin tan head. A little too carbonated for my tastes, I like imperials to go down smooth. Flavor is dominated by caramel. Nothing special for an imperial, but tastes good on the whole. xproudfoot (729), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA
| 1.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 2/10 | 3/5 | 2/20 | Nov 14, 2005 I still have yet to identify this flavor, but 3 or 4 heivyweight beers had it and all three were drainpours (well, gave the rest of this to a friend.) It’s got a strong alcohol flavor and some kind of malt/hops that I find a huge turnoff. IT’s definitely somewhat sour as the other reviewer noticed. Blech.
