Commercial Description:
A Baltic porter brewed in collaboration with Lew Bryson. This style is difficult to find outside of the Baltics. What a shame! The grist consists of lots of Munich malt and some chocolate and other specialty malts. A Bavarian lager yeast is used to create this. Dark and mysterious, subtle and well, it is called the Hammer. For those who care, Perkuno was the Baltic thunder god.

Pours black with a small tan head. Nice tan lacing. Sweet chocolate fruit aroma. Taste is sweet, just like every other heavyweight beer. Creamy mouthfeel. Roasted notes. Sweet aftertaste.

Opaque black, no head. Roasted nose with loads of licorice. Roasted barley, licorice with dry and almost metallic flavor. Long roasted aftertaste. A bit too simple to be great.

Bottled. Black opaque colour, small brown head. Roasted malt, sweet caramellish notes in aroma. Sweet caramel, old coffee and roasted malt in flavour. Aftertaste is mainly roast and coffee. Sticky, but pleasant palate.

As black as black gets with no head when poured, just a few islands of thin bubbles and a brown collar of foam at the edges. Aroma of beautiful, elegant, burnt fruit with licorice encompassing everything. Flavor is very sour. There is some viscosity, malt flavors are not very distinct, there is some iced coffee flavor and dark fruit, and I taste lots of sulphate in the water. The finish is long but not necessairily pleasant.

Appears a black with a thick tan head that fades into a nice tan collar. Cocoa powder and yeast drops from the bottom of the bottle into the goblet. Smell is of milk chocolate, black & concorde grapes, fudge, smooth buttery cream, and perhaps a hint of black liquorice buried in the background. Taste is of the same outstanding aromas. Mouthfeel is smooth, rich, sweet, warming, along with a slight sourness that fits this slightly chewy style.

Cola like in appearance with almost no head at all. Smells of smokey chocolate, prunes, and roasted malts. Taste is slightly bitter and smokey. Leaves an aftertaste of liquid smoke. Not bad, but there are better porters out there.

12 oz bottle from sampler pack. Dark and strong tasting. A bit sweet and could definitely use either more hops or more roasted grain (more chocolate and maybe some black patent?) Also, a porter is NOT supposed to be a lager.

Quite a nice brew, malty, not overpowering. Very nice flavor, quite mellow. Can’t wait to have this one again!
