Commercial Description:
A Baltic porter brewed in collaboration with Lew Bryson. This style is difficult to find outside of the Baltics. What a shame! The grist consists of lots of Munich malt and some chocolate and other specialty malts. A Bavarian lager yeast is used to create this. Dark and mysterious, subtle and well, it is called the Hammer. For those who care, Perkuno was the Baltic thunder god.

Out of a bottle. Aroma mostly chocolate, roasted malts. Poured black with tan head that had some density to it. Taste was good malty and chocolate. Palate was thin but flavor made it much more rich and finish was relatively clean. I enjoyed this very much and could easily have welcomed a few more. My first from Heavyweight I hope this reflects their quality.

Smokey, malty aroma with a touch of brown sugar. Black with a thumb thick bubbly mocha head. There is an almost cinnamon/maple sweetness to this. Also get smokey notes. Body is somewhat thin tasting, but the mouthfeel is thick. Sounds odd I know, but to me it tastes thin and feels thick. Must be from the lager yeast. Very unsual brew. Thanks to Lou18 for this specimen.

bottle thanks to footbalm for this one. pours a slick oily black body with shin almost nonexistant head. aroma is roasted and something else i cant place. the taste is like nothing i have had before. mabye dark fruits, some hevily roasted malts and an acidic quality which i find strangely appealing. not to carbonated very slick mouth feel long lingering aftertaste of strong dark chocolate and roasted malts. though the after taste is subtle if that makes any sense. very good

Semi-translucent cherry black appearance with tiny amoeba tan fizzles for the head. Aroma displays heavily roasted qualities, singed dark chocolate bark, cocoa powder, black currant and coffee grinds. Flavor transitions to black cherry syrup. Bitter-sweet and boding unfamiliarly on the senses. On one hand, it displays a dry, dark roasted complexity; on the other hand is a viscous monster. Medium-bodied and syrupy at times. Seems to have too many elements competing for attention. Finishes like burnt cherry cobbler and coffee for the ride home. Thanks for the bottle, tpkenned.

Sample at VTBrewfest - Poured a very dark brown/black with a healthy tan head. Aroma was heavy with roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Flavor was actually more malty than I expected from the smell, but it had a quite nice caramel/toffee flavor that almost made it feel creamy in the mouth. Mildly bitter to finish with no apparent alcohol. My first Baltic Porter and hopefully not my last... really quite good...

(Rating #218)

Deep black hue, with a beige tan-colored foamy head, roasted malt, molasses, maltiness, coffee beans, chocolotey note, burnt toast aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with roasted malt, roasted coffee beans, molasses, toffee note in a soft bitterness finish.
