Commercial Description:
A Baltic porter brewed in collaboration with Lew Bryson. This style is difficult to find outside of the Baltics. What a shame! The grist consists of lots of Munich malt and some chocolate and other specialty malts. A Bavarian lager yeast is used to create this. Dark and mysterious, subtle and well, it is called the Hammer. For those who care, Perkuno was the Baltic thunder god.

Pours a dark brown opaque color. Small light brown head. Aroma is funky, must with cardboard and black licorice. Flavor is dark and sour, not pleasent whatsoever. Possibly infected or oxidized.

Finally getting around to rating that one! It pours quite dark, close to black. The thin light brown head quickly laves completely though. Aroma is rich with malts boasting plenty of caramel and chocolate. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had used molasses in fact. Firm roastiness, a bit of vegetal tones, cane sugar and rum hints. I don’t know how well the flavors were melting together, but it made for a nice change of pace after a few underwhelming porters. Surprisingly enough, it had more acidity than I expected in mouth, coke-ish with soy sauce notes. Greenish hoppiness stays nicely in the back. Earthy, chocolatey and still well roasted, but I’ve trouble dealing with roasted-sour combos. Quite creamy texture, fudge reminiscent, moderately carbonated. Okay stuff, I certainly expected more with the general quality of Heavyweight beers I’ve had and the fact that this is one of their most highly regarded brews. Seems to be in the RB tendency to overappreciate dark and bold stuff.

thanks to footbalm for this extra brew.it poured a black body with a dark brown head.the aroma was a bit on the sour side with some earthy overtones.the flavor was what stood out the most.coffee, dates, earth, cream, alcohol, and roasted malts all joined together in a well balanced bouquet.the palate kept changing over many seconds.this is nice stuff indeed.

Deep brown, smallish head. Licorice, molasses and matly aromas. Medium body that is slick. Big flavor here with roasted malt and licorice. Lingering flavors, really nice porter.

Pours a deep, dark read with a nice layer of brown foam. Aroma of prunes, molasses, caramel, and burnt malts. Flavor of sweet cream, coffee, and smokey/burnt notes. As it warms a citrus-like acidity and yeastiness emerges. Nice.

from the bottle, poured a dark browto black, with a tan head. aroma a nice sweet chocolate, dark cheeries, malts, molasses, with hints off coffee. flavor a little disappointing compared to the aroma, watery, got a sweetness but not the chocolate, hints of coffee, malts and dark fruits all on the weak side. this is not a bad beer but it would be better if the flavor was just a little bit more robust

Wonderful black body with a thin ring tan bubbles that made up the head. Dark roasted malts with chocolate, carmel, coffee and molasses in the aroma. Taste was of coffee, carmel, toasted malts and a lot of molasses. There was also a hint of dark cherries and maybe some other fruits. A very tasty beer that goes down smooth.

Rating #300. Thanks to willblake for this bottle! Reddish brown pour and a tan head with traces of red. Excellent aromas. Lots of chocolate, molasses, and light roasted malt along with a touch of hops. Malty but not overly sweet. Has a distinct bakers chocolate flavor along with some coffee. Turns a bit bitter on the finish, with a burnt coffee note. Tasty brew that hides it’s alcohol well.
