Great underlying sweetness with molasses and caramel. This actually has the taste of a Charleston Chew!!! Turns slightly bitter on the finish. Really unique brew---Not my favorite but different is good. goldtwins (4084), Nesconset, New York, USA

There’s something else in here that I can’t pinpoint, but it doesn’t smell good. Pours a dark brown with barely some orange hilights when held to the light. Small tan head. Dominant flavor of tart sour grapes with a chocolate and coffee finish. This is horrible, but maybe it’s an infected bottle. Sampled courtesy of Styles.

Re-rate courtesy of Cornboy. Big malty aroma of chocolate, molasses, and fruit. Nothing offensive so far, so we are off to a much better start than the first time. Pours a dark brown with no transparency with a small tan head that fades quickly to a ring. Lots of chocolate, molasses, and hints of roasted malt. Finishes with moderate fruitiness and a hint of tartness which gives it almost a chocolate covered cherry flavor. First bottle had to be infected. This one was much better. sirchris (42), Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Mar 27, 2005 Great looking beer. Nice creamy thick brown head, black body. The taste was alchoholic and slight roasted flavor. I found the flavor to be less robust then I expected but it got much better when warm. I’d try it again. swirl (267), collingswood, New Jersey, USA

This is one of those beers I tried in order to support local Jersey brewers. It might not be for everyone but if you’re adventurous enough give it a try. beerhandy (195), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA

The lacing on the side of the glass is some of the best I have ever seen. Very sweet aroma with chocolate, caramel, coffee espresso and dark fruits. The taste has roasted coffee, caramel, chocolate and dark fruits. Banana and vanilla roundout the palate along with some mocha. This is an excellent Imperial Porter with fantastic malts in it. beerinmarch (2829), Washington, USA
