| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 14, 2004 This has a pitch black color with a head that only lasts a second or two. Malts arent as smoked as i like my porters but the chocolate and arabic coffee flavor makes it drinkable. Taste is of black cherry, black licorice, black olive, toffee and some cognac. I need to try the other Heavywieghts out. wulfhere (217), Billings, Montana, USA

nose is over caramel and roasted malt. Color is dark brown, opaque. Head is a tan with larger bubbles (tipped the damn beer over just before pouring it, so I lost about and ounce and shook the bottle up) and fades to a thin layer after a minute or so.
nice smooth chocolate and roasted flavor with a slight astringency to it, Definite alcohol presence in the taste and in the nose if you exhale as you hold it in your mouth. Decent mouthfeel and a tasty patent/burnt finish to it.
a nice beer, it’s a shame it can’t be found in Montana. Kinz (2207), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 12, 2004 Pours black with brown around the edges, creamy fading white head. Aroma is of chocolate liqour, nice. Flavor is a perfect meld of coffee, chocolate, dark cherry, and liqour, seemless. Very nice beer. Heavyweight is really impressing me. pobenohne (504), Northern Liberties, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 4, 2004 On draft at the Abbaye. Clear black brew, little head, little lace. A "super porter" without being a stout or imperial stout: easy on the roasted malts, mellow flavors, a bit boozy. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Oct 3, 2004 A few issues with the appearence. Poor retention with very little lacing.
Tons of roasted malts in the nose with chocolate and wood.
Very dry chocolate and grapes up front with toffee, caramel and butterscotch. Finish is dry of burnt malts, dried berries, licorice and vanilla. Alcohol is hardly evident.
I really enjoyed the flavor of this beer. badgerben (3600), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 18, 2004 Pours a tar black color with no head. Heavy coffee aroma. Very malty and chocolatey. Thick. I almost thought I tasted some salt... an interesting addition that I like: a coastal beer that reminds you of a frigid day on the Baltic Sea. Wonderful! robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA

Worth Trying Again.. Aging a Bottle for the Future. Malt, Chocolate.. Possibly some Spice or Fruit. Very Unusual But Great Porter!
Rerated March ’07 with aged Bottle: Sweet Rich Syrapy Malt and Alc Aroma. Sweet and Syrapy Mouthfeel...Light Roasts and Chocolate..Creamy and Sweet....Sweet, Smooth and Dry Aftertaste. Most Certainly a Good Porter But Given the Samples I’ve Had, I Feel that It’s a Bit Over-Hyped. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Sep 14, 2004 (12 oz bottle, obtained in trade, thanks Eyedrinkale!) Damn, what an unsual and outstanding nose, it’s very sweet and fruity, like a naturally sweet mix of strawberry, raspberry and cherry fruit toppings, like those often found on Belgian waffles; There is also a dark roasted aroma, but amazingly, the fruitiness pushes it to the background; It sure doesn’t smell at all like a porter, but I love it, so it gets top marks anyway; The flavor is more porter-like, being fairly strong on the dark roasted maltiness, but like the nose predicts, a sweet, strong berry fruitiness is able to cut fairly well into the dark roasted flavors, resulting in a only a moderate bitterness; Full bodied, rich and long lasting, but not heavy on the palate; Pitch black and obviously opaque; Dark tan head is of average size on the pour and gradually fades to a thick rim; Only a few hints of lacing
