Commercial Description:
A Baltic porter brewed in collaboration with Lew Bryson. This style is difficult to find outside of the Baltics. What a shame! The grist consists of lots of Munich malt and some chocolate and other specialty malts. A Bavarian lager yeast is used to create this. Dark and mysterious, subtle and well, it is called the Hammer. For those who care, Perkuno was the Baltic thunder god.

Bottle. Dark brown colour with a little head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate. Nice tasty flavour of caramel, roadstedness, chocolate, as well as hints of coffee. Also some sweetness at the end.

pours thick and black with a whispy tan head, light roasted malt aroma, big body, rich dry malt flavor, good balance of roasted and chocolate malts, a hint of sweet fruity character that almost breaks through - a bit of age should help, only a touch of bitterness in the finish, upon warming the flavor gets incredably rich and the bitterness picks up a bit,

hot alcoholic aroma, sweet malty chocolate flavor, lots of sweet licorish, the fruity character is starting to come out but is still obscured by the alcolocic burn, getting better

picking up some smoke in the aroma, much more of the rich chocolate without the alcoholic burn this time around,

From a 12oz Bottle. Courtesy of hopdog. Pours a somewhat transparent, dark chocolaty brown color with a thin layer of wispy off-white head. Aromas of chewy chocolate and dark caramel, accompanied by a soft prune fruitiness. Not overly complex, but has a pleasant mid-malt character. Medium bodied, mildly carbonated mouthfeel. I had another bottle that exploded on me, but this one is a little bit light on the carbonation. I’m guessing this is a good thing though, as this bottle has no signs of infection, while the other bottle likely was. Rich chocolate malts warm the tongue slowly, opening up to some rich coffee and chewy dark raisin. Lots of dark chocolate and fruit flavors without a lot of roast, leaving a rich coffee flavor lingering in the final smack. Thanks, Steve!

12oz from beastiefan2k. Black body with a small tan head. Lots of cake malts fill a syrupy yet surprisingly light body. Dark chocolate powder, figs and dates and raisins in molasses. I found the progression to be quite original and interesting to say the least. The attack is very smooth and malty, it then turns very sweet and fruity and the finale is rather roasted, powdery and dry. It’s only culprit is a overly soft carbonation and a stale body. The rather lifeless body is probably an aging problem more than an actual beer problem. I wish I could get a fresher one but the brewery just doesn’t exist anymore. Another great beer from this defunct brewery.

I cannot remember who sent this to me. Aroma was light chocolate and it had some dark fruits coming through. Also a little brown sugar coming through. It seemed a little bland at first but as it warmed this became extremely flavorful. Pretty good beer overall too bad heavyweight is gone,

This bottled brew from a moejuck at a rating party on Dark Lord Day poured a small sized head of foamy with a frothy top finely sized light brown colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a opaque no visible carbonation black colored body. The aroma was brown malt and dark malt. The mouth feel was very tingly at the start and at the finish vinous aftertaste. The smooth flavor contained notes of brown malt. Delicious and one I would certainly like to have again.

12oz, no date with a big thanks to Paul (Dickinsonbeer) for this brew. Black with a ring of tan head. Aroma has some roasted malts and grain, an unexpected rotting trash and sour vinegar aroma (infection?), raisins and a bit of chocolate. Thankfully, the roasted malts covered up the trashy vinegary thing for a little bit in the taste. However, it didn’t take long for that nastiness to come back in the middle, but again waned in the chalky finish. I enjoy the taste much more than the aroma. There may have been a bit of raisins in the flavor as well, but mainly its roasty and sour. Alcohol well hidden. Light carbonation with a medium-full body. I never kept up to date on how/why/when Hwt. closed, but I think I remember infected beers were a problem. I see the problem here.

Bottle. Courtesy of Papsoe, thanks for sharing Henrik. Small frothy light brown head that mostly diminished. Black color. Aroma of molasses, chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, and light overripe fruit like. Medium bodied with an average carbonation. Moderated sweet flavor with light bitter notes. Sweet coffee like finish.
