Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours black, oily and thick with a small tan head that lingers. There is a strong coffee and chocolate scent. The flavor is rich and malty with strong notes of coffee and chocolate. The texture is very smooth and the flavor changes as it oily coats your tongue. The aftertaste lingers forever. Of note, I also tried this on cask conditioned draft. Just as dark and oily, but the flavor was quite subdued. I had no trouble drinking large quantities of the draft - but the bottle really is so much more noteworthy. Barley69 (23), Rochester, New York, USA

Millions of thanks to froggyfrog for this the opportunity to try this amazing beer. This is only the second beer I have ever considered perfect. It is a 5.0 because I really don’t see any way to improve any of the characteristics.
Allowed to warm and served in my snifter glass.
Appearance: 5.0 Poured a chocolaty black into my snifter with a tan light chocolate head and spectacular lacing. Even on the pour the viscosity was magnificent. Few beer pour like a commercial but this is one sexy beer. Mmm!
Smell: 5.0 From the moment I popped the cap my nose was *filled* with chocolate and with the pour came even more chocolate and berries and cherries and rum and molasses and coffee and dark bittersweet chocolate *again* some port or sherry, brown sugar a hint of smoky campfire, a touch of vanilla oak and loads more sending me completely out of this freakin world! The drool has collected in a poodle at my feet the aroma is that damn enticing!
Taste: 5.0 The flavors follow the nose but grow even *more* in depth. It does not punch you in the face with flavor as hard as Rogue Impy Stout or DFH WWS does. This one creeps up inside your palate and explodes with flavors that blow up in face (or mouth). The initial taste for me was dark chocolate dipped berries, raspberries, cranberries, cherries, they blend together but it is magnificent. There is also a chalky malty feel of malted milk balls; roasty coffee, boozy port plum raisins, and toasted caramel. WWS has jack on this beer. The approachability, the ease of entry… This beer is like the trogen horse that sneaks in so easily (that is marvelously drinkable) and then erupts with ingredients you never expected from a ~ Baltic Porter ~?!
Mouthfeel: 5.0 There must be something adulterous about Perkuno’s Hammer. I haven’t enjoyed anything in my mouth this much since my last affair with the Duchesse De Bourgogne. Easy silky malty chalky light and tart all at the same time. It is a joy to swirl in the mouth and impossible to resist more.
Drinkability: 5.0 I am going to edit some other reviews. I *now* know what a drinkable beer *really* is. The bar has been raised. I have absolutely found a beer of beers and the brewery just closed. I am at a loss for words … (believe it or not) …
Hope this is helpful.
Cheers!

I had it last night and it was really fresh. It was a very young porter but this was great. I had this on tap it was so good. Dark in color. Very subtle flavors. Some roast and some chocolate. Full bodied. Good beer. KURTO99 (18), wexford, Pennsylvania, USA

| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Sep 12, 2002 Oh my goodness...This ranks right up there as one of my favorites. Pours almost like a Samuel Smith’s Imperial Stout. Deep black oily brew with a ton of viscosity. If your stomach were an engine, your next oil change would be in 2010! Heavy and dominant. Dark brown chocolate head that dissipates a little too quickly, which is really all I can say badly about this gem. Smooth as silk. Imagine drinking milk chocolate from Hersheys with a shot of smooth alcohol. Purely chocoholic for those that like a late night chocolate feast. Forget the dark brownies and chew on this desert. Slightly malty and sweet with a hint of shiraz wine giving it a nice warm closing sensation. An absolute don’t miss for all stout and porter drinkers! For those that rated this poorly, I suggest you re-evaluate your epithelium as it may cause you more harm than good later on in life! maltydog (14), Brooklyn, New York, USA
