ChristianScheffel (4431), Odense, Denmark Jul 26, 2009 Cloudy dark brown with a lasting white head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, spice and fruit. Fruity, chocolate, roast malt flavour with a little tartness yobdoog (1426), Woodridge NY, New York, USA Apr 11, 2009 This is one of the HW’s that was still good I think. Nice and sour fruits. Citrus fruits and dark fruit with some sweetness. Really good still. pinkzambia (986), Boise, Idaho, USA Mar 17, 2009 Bottle: Dark brown and not clear. Tangy aroma akin to the air around a BBQ on a cool night. It has similar flavors especially the tang to a Flemish sour ale. If all saisons tasted like this, I would drink more of them. BuckeyeBoy (1645), Boise, Idaho, USA Mar 15, 2009 Bottle Pours out a dark brown with some red highs, Topped with a small tan head. Aroma was nice sweet chocolate and pit fruit. Tast was not to the Style but very good. Lots of sweet chocolate and roast, along with the pit fruit. jake65 (1658), Williston, North Dakota, USA Mar 15, 2009 Bottle: Dark mahoghany pour with a thin brown head. Aroma is chocolatey with some roastiness and dark fruits. Some sour and tart notes as well. The taste puts more tart into the equation; dark fruits, light roast, and some more cocoa. Has a soft earthy quality to it, but retains a light tart feel. Different for sure, but certainly good. Thanks biggcb. JB175 (1654), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 4, 2009 Darker color with a mildly sour aroma that features some dark fruit and bretty undertones. Flavor has a sour/bretty/bready/dark fruit mix that I like, but don’t find "awesome". This may be a tad past its prime, but still quite drinkable today. Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Feb 11, 2009 In short: A “pleasantly” infected past-due-date dark ale of some kind
How: Bottle 750ml, consumed when a few years (too) old. Sent my way by BrianK, thanks a lot Brian for this rare opportunity
The look: Almost black body toped by a medium tan head
In long: Weird nose mixing lactic elements, chocolate ice-cream, spicy hops, oxidation and little hint of wine vinegar. Taste offers the same elements with the addition of some roastiness in a fluffy lifeless body. It’s pretty obvious that this old bottle shows the early stage of infection yet it inexplicably was a pleasant experience. The slightly acidic finish even adds to the drinkability. A bit infected yes but I drank a full 750ml by myself and in the end I wanted more! how’s that for an infected bottle?!? The stale roasted body and the sour notes (two old age defects) worked somewhat well together and if I didn’t know what the beer was supposed to be I would consider it an interesting venture into the roasted Flemish Sour territory. This is a case of two wrongs that make a right, like a cross-eyed dyslexic who can read all right. emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Feb 8, 2009 Thanks ucusty for sharing. Pours a dark brown with a fizzy tan head. The nose is earhty, grainy, some yeast, tad spicy, oxidized, cardboard. The flavor is oxidized as well, aged feel, earthy, caramel, tad yeasty. Wish I could have had this one fresh as well.
