Commercial Description:
This one was inspired by Fantome's Black Ghost and Pizza Port's SPF8. It's deep brown in color and the combination of roast and tropical fruit flavors are strange but effective. It's hopped with English Goldings and Saaz and fermented with three Belgian yeast strains. ~6% Brewed: Feb.17 Bottled:

(750ml bottle, #54) Pours a dark brown (almost black) body with a large brwon head. Aroma of roasted malt, marshmellow, sausage, cocoa, and fruit. Malty backbone with a creamy finish and many fruit and spices in the flavor.

Dark mahogany, thin head, light lacing. Nose of light citrus & plums, rich yeast and chocolate w/caramel malt. The flavor is sweet, tangy and balanced. Nice balanced saison, I’ve homebrewed something similar to this but it wasn’t near as balanced.

Thin murky brown with a big frothy beige head. Aroma of citrus, raisin, yeast, and cheese. Odd looking for a saison. Sweet and citric with some dark toasting of the malts. The body of the beer is quite light and the carbonation is very effervesent. Deeper than some of the more standard saisons with a smattering of stewed fruit. Salty sour finish.

Courtesy of Hopdog via trade. Pours hazy opaque brown, with a huge off-white head made up off tiny bubbles. A little sourness up front with a roasted grain presence, almost porter like. flavor is fruity, grape and maybe cherry? with the same roastiness. very unique take on a saison. Decent overall.

Bottle #54. Schwarzbier appearance expect for the big head. Woody and vanilla. The finish brings to mind campfires, chocolate, and cold winter nights. Slight sour, lactic twinge suggestive of lime (thanks Kevin). Well supported palate, with a frothy carbonation.

Original Rating (6-4-6-3-12=3.1): Grapey, roasty, bitter cocoa and licorice in the aroma. Opaque brown body with low tan head that recedes to ring and laces. Grape, cocoa, cherry in a very roasty flavour with a dry, dusty bitterness and fair leafy hop note. Medium body with fair carbonation. Bottle sampled at RBSG’05.
Rerate (5-4-5-2-9=2.5): Very grapey, olives and vinegar in the aroma. Dark brown-black with decent tan head that fizzes out to a partial cover with some nice lacing. Grapiness is strong in the tart, bitter and fruity flavour. Very strong prickly carbonation to the medium body. Bottle sampled with beerbuzzmontreal, ClarkVV, Goldorak, MartinT, muzzlehatch, Olivier_MTL, Rastacouere and Yowie.

Almost no head to speak of with a thin ring of bubbles around the outside. Light carbonation. Dry, bitter aroma with bitter dark chocolate, roasted grains and a hint of ripe black cherry. Wonderful color. A deep dark port red/brown. Slightly sour flavor but not too much. More roastyness to offset the fruity sourness. Very interesting combo. Tastes like a sour saison mixed with a schwarzbier. Finish has a nice lingering sourness that keeps the mouth salivating for more. An interesting and plesant experiment. Needs to be carbonated more though.
