yobdoog (1420), Woodridge NY, New York, USA Sep 2, 2009 Not a bad saison but at this point there is no detectable spice. A nice dryness and no sourness at all. A little sweetness and little yeast. richlikebeer (823), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 13, 2009 other than the black, this was my favorite of the saison experiment...cloudy gold color with nice white lacing that held for the whole glass...sweet and caramel nose with just a hint of yeast. flavor was very sweet at the beginning, but turned spicy about halfway through and into the tail. an interesting balance and as with so many of Tom and Peggy’s beers, very enjoyable to drink. imadeadguy (378), back in NJ!, New Jersey, USA Apr 7, 2009 Updated: Jul 31, 2009Rating #100 for this one. 750ml. via kp. Shared at HSBG. Pour is a cloudy amber/orange with fizzy white head. Aromas of apples, slight spice, and sweet malts. Flavor is very mellow and smooth. Drank like apple juice with carbonation. Tart apples, sweet malts, and more fruit throughout. Awesome beer. Big thanks to kp again for hookin it up with this gem. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Oct 16, 2008 Bottle. Poured a cloudy light orange color with a white head. Unusual aroma of rubber and baking spices. Light to medium bodied and a bit sweet. Fruity and malty; kind of canned mixed fruit-ish with malty brown sugar and toffee. Not really my bag. pepsican (883), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA Sep 14, 2008 Light amber pour with a small soapy white head. Aroma is spicy cloves, candi sugar, orange suckers. Flavor is buttery, plenty of spice. Has some apple core, flowers,. Finished dry, decent body. Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jun 5, 2008 750mL bottle. Poured clear for the first 1/3 of the bottle and murky deeper brown afterward. The aroma picked up sweeter dark fruits and caramel upfront with a touch of floral not far behind.. some odd sweeter candy undertones behind, which could be a by-product of age. The flavor had caramel and chocolatey sweetness at the core with spicy floral and dry peppery bitterness around.. sweet overall and very tasty! Dry on the palate and medium-bodied.. spicy hops were muted but they worked OK.. the sweet backing suffered a little from age as well. This is going downhill, but it still works. tytoanderso (1382), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Apr 7, 2008 750ml bottle shared with the Chi-Town crew. Cheesy, funky, grassy on the nose. A hint of brett? Pours hazy dark copper. Light spotty lacing. Flavor mirrors the nose: cheesy, grassy, light fruit, a touch of funk. Fruity and floral. Fresh and still lively on the palate. Thanks Drew! holdenn (1431), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 6, 2008 750 ml bottle sampled at An Evening with Pantanap #4. Thanks to drewbeerme for bringing another retired Heavyweight. Pours a hazed orange with a beige head. Fresh malts in the nose. Lemons, oranges, and a touch of cheese. Sweet flavors of caramel, bread, and citrus that are balanced with a crisp, spicy, and tart finish. Lively and refreshing. I could drink a lot of this on a hot day.
