On draft at Rattle n Hum. Pours a clear dark mahogany red colour with a medium beige head. Sour vinous aroma, oak wood and light bourbon. Tastes like sour oak wood and bourbon.

Oct 8, 2009 Tap. Aroma was sweet, caramel, vanilla, that was the good part. Flavor was just sour and uninteresting to me.

Oct 5, 2009 Sour. I did not realize it was supposed to be sour, so I was wondering if this had gone bad. Vinous and mild, lightly smoky, with some cereal flavor as well. Nothing great, imo. It makes me wonder if the wild yeast aspect of it was intentional. On tap at Rattle n Hum.

Oct 4, 2009 Tap at Rattle N Hum. Had no idea this was supposed to be sour, so I was a bit taken aback. Aroma was actually rich malt, vanilla, caramel, lots of sweet notes that I expected going in. Then in the flavor a sort of wet wood/wet grain sourness comes into play with just a hint of bourbon that seems to become part of the sourness. The malty character evident in the nose also remains, but undeniably rearranged with the sour notes. Fruity-sour notes as well, green raisin most notable for me. Overall interesting and unexpected!

How: Tap at Deep Elum, Boston
The look: Dark mahogany body topped by medium beige head
In long: Nose is sour and woody. Taste is smooth caramel/toffee, lots of wood barrel, sour grapes, dark grapes, red wine. There’s a lot of wood barrel but I didn’t find it particularly Bourbon, just pure wood barrel. The sourness level is medium and the finish blends sourness with wood dryness. Overall the beer felt rather dirty and dusty. Honestly this is a pretty fucked up beer but I found it enjoyable. I hope for mankind that the real messiah is not as bizarre as this beer otherwise we’ll need to ask forgiveness for our dirty socks in order to be granted eternal rabbit ears.
