***review from May 17, 2007***

Right off the bat this seems to be a milder, more drinkable American Barleywine mainly since the aroma was not harsh. The brew is a reddish dark amber (not totally clear) with a small tan crown that levels off as a skim and leave some small spotty lacing that slowly pops away. The aroma is way more mellow than the other ABW’s I’ve had and this appeals to me. A really good subdued mix of caramelly malts, raisins, citrus (seems to be more orangy, but is probally grapefruit - does that make any sence?), pomegranate is there too (had more strength as it warms), maybe prunes and probally chocolate...yea, the sweetness - I can notice it more every time I breathe in. Man, I’m loving this...great blend and not overpowering! Very fresh and appealing. Just because a beer has insane aroma and flavour does not always make it a great beer just due to the fact that there is LOTS of everything. Very well done. I’m drinking this quicker and quicker...probally not a beer to start reviewing at a quarter to midnight. I’m not sure what I expected from the addition of the pomegranate juice so I’m undecieded if it is the right ammount for me. Lots of flavour here, but nothing agressive - not to say that the flavour is lacking - Malts. Then the cirtusy hops....and then I get a quick dose of bitterness that disipates, definite fruitiness that is really, really tasty - probally the reason I’ve pretty much drank the entire bottle in during the review. Some caramel to the malts and the bitterness is more prominent then I originally thought but still managable. Plums and some pepper (or something close to it, but not alcohol) and some tartness at the end. Overall a great mix of flavours..odd - this bitterness comes and goes and appears almost at random places in the taste. Just had a stiff shot of spice that almost resembled alcohol but never made it there. He’brew does an amazing job at hiding the 10% in the taste and aroma but not in my now wobbly mind. Mouthfeel is excellent - active carbonation in the mouth, a smooth, soft feel, medium bodied +, and a great aftertaste that is malts and/or bitterness and/or fruit depending on which swig you pay attention to. I like this stuff. I think it’s waaaaaay to easy to drink and I’ll be buying more - not as much as the Lenny’s Bittersweet which is truly awsome. Another good brew from He’brew. Ahhhhhhh. There’s the 10%. So easy to drink. Big marks.

Brown, milky brown well I guess it’s more of cloudy brown then a milky one, the beer only produced a quarter inch cap but this lasted for pretty much the entire life of the brew and it was noisier then hell it was like a giant mug of rice crispies, lacing was excellent as well. Slightly bitter aroma with tons of dark malt, some vanilla, pepper, and just the slightest hint of alcohol, aroma is good maybe a touch mild and for a barley wine its not mind blowingly good. Beer is built on a massive malt backbone what is very refreshing coming from the states to drink a heavier brew that doesn’t taste like hop juice. I’m hitting lots of peppery notes and some other spices and can’t seem to find any trace of the pomegranate juice they have added. I keep getting this flavor every once and a while that I can only describe as minty tobacco but in a good way (how’s that possible). The 10% alcohol is noticeable but barely however my stomach and throat are getting a nice warm sensation with every sip. The taste has a mild bitterness but also comes across sweet, mouth fell seemed pretty standerd. Good brew, high quality and tasty but for a English barley wine its not rocking my world."

drank this last night. my idiot friend though it was "flemish." he always pretends like he knows things he doesn’t know anything about. it smelled like roses and was pretty sweet smelling. it was also super syrupy in texture and flavor.

Thanks to eg@/?5!s for opening this aged bottle... Appears an orange toned amber with a tiny, off white head that quickly fades into a mild collar. Splattered spots of lacing are left around the glass. Smell is of malted grains, citrus, and juicy pomegranate juice. Taste is of citrus, malt, and cocoa infused pomegranate with berries. Mouthfeel is light bodied with alcohol in the background, leading to a thin finish.

Terrapin & Friends beer dinner at Trappeze. Poured cloudy amber with a slim head. Aroma of light hop, fruit, funk, malt. Taste is a little fruity, with some sour notes. Pomm is not too noticable. Brew is nicely balanced. Finishes a little bitter, with a touch of alcohol. Mouth is medium bodied and tart.

22 oz bottle. Lots of muted hops that were mostly just sweetness. They were evident in the aroma and the flavor. Sweet finish and some vanilla and caramel malts in the long finish. I liked it!

This certainly wasnt the greatest beer by any strech of the means. Flavor is sweet and full of alcohol. aroma was nice though. Had a lot of pomegranate to it. Not much else to say about this one.
