Strongly fruity aroma, does indeed reflect the addition of pomegranate, combined with a blend of orange, grapefruit, pineapple, a touch of leafy mint and some floral sweetness. Light-medium copper color with a lasting, fine, creamy head and a fair bit of lacing. Flavors are predominantly hoppy, more juicy citrus, some spice, pine and earth noted, along with a blend of peppery alcohol, prominent hop bitterness, faint grape and sugary, amber malt sweetness. Features a certain sharp tang in places, most notably the finish. Lively and clean on the palate, body is full. Mostly enjoyable, perhaps a tad brash. pintocb (510), Darsville, Georgia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 3, 2007 Coppery color. Not much head. Smells more like a BW than and American Strong. Malty, fruity and hoppy with that strong sweet smell I associate with BW. Tastes interesting.....the pomegranate juice adds a nice flavor. GG (1640), NorCal, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 27, 2007 While I’ve had better A. Barleywines, this wasn’t too bad. In fact the pommegranites gave it an intersting juicy, fruity angle. An aroma mostly of malts and floral hops but there is a fruity character that’s unmistakeable. Appearance is copper in color with a huge off-white foamy head. Mouthfeel was intersting. Thick enough to notice but not cloying in anyway, but still maintaining a lightness. Flavor was fruity, alcohol, malty with a nice hop kick. Not really something that I’d return to multiple times, but for a change of pace barleywine this is fairly interesting. zach8270 (2103), Henrietta, New York, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 25, 2007 (bottle - 22 oz) Murky copper color with a creamy tan head. Aroma is very mild and sweet with a little malts and the lightest touch of pomegranate. Very hard to smell though. Flavor is tangy and fruity at the beginning with a warming middle and a slight aftertaste of pomegranate juice. Finishes quick with a little bitterness. Not too bad. Aroma,: mild, fruity, hoppy a bit, sweet...
Taste: hmmm, a sweet hunk of fruitiness, big malt for balance, getting bigger, yummier...an outsized hunk of melon and mango and pomegranate? I guess so...
this is big and beautiful, yums meets yummier...alcohol feels higher...10%? hoo-baba, hay, nonny!
I mean to say, righteous! mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 17, 2007 Did a side by side with the Hebrew Origin. Pours a cloudy maroon orange with a pretty well retained light tan head. Not a very appealing smell on this beer. Kind of smells like a fruit and tomato mixture. Very earthy. Kinda wierd. Tastes of strong pomegranate and cinnamon spices. A little zing to it. Not much biterness which was good for this beer. Finishes pretty smooth and the aftertaste and mouthfeel were quite nice. michael-pollack (2688), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 17, 2007 22oz. Bottle: Aroma is lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Smells of earthy, piney, and resiny hops, as well as caramel malts. Poured amber in color with a small, rocky, tan head that lasted throughout. Slight lacing. Clear and sparkling. Flavor is medium sweet and lightly bitter. Sweet and malty throughout. Tastes like cookie. In the middle it gets a bit bitter before turning back to malty and sweet. Medium body. Average carbonation. Sweet and salty dry finish. Overall, a little too malty, but the salty finish helps balance that out. bombshelter (349), Washington, Washington DC, USA
