Poured a dark brown-black with red highlights and an average-sized, off-white, creamy head. The head diminished quickly but laced good. The aroma was of moderate caramel chocolate and mild coffee. There was also just a touch of skunk that I may have just been imagining, because it didn’t come through in the flavor at all. The initial flavor was light bitter chocolate finishing with moderately sweet, heavily bitter dark chocolate. There was also some smoked nutty flavor in there. It had a full body and was syrupy in a good way, with lively carbonation and a finish feel of bitter chocolate (if that makes any sense). Way better than I remembered. (I had a bottle a few months before joining ratebeer, and really started paying attention to how beer tastes and not just how much alcohol was in it.) I remembered liking it, but not loving it like I would say now. It a shame that it is retired. I will definitely try to snag another bottle or two of this one before it goes the way of the Dodo. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 5, 2007 Updated: Jan 7, 200722 oz bomber. Rich dark amber color with tall frothy brown head. The head was reduced to a thin brown foamy membrane in a couple of minutes. Full aroma of dark cherries, apricots and date fruitiness plus a healthy dose of caramel, toffee and a bit of alcohol. First sip is smooth smooth flavor that turns slightly tart then gives way to a gleaming conveyer belt of dark fruitiness, caramel and toffee. From the midway point to the finish the flavor is rich malty and smooth. A note of chocolate malts ushers in the coffee, slight caramel sweetness and a touch of alcohol aftertaste. Very tasty. I gotta get more. egajdzis (3638), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA

Oxidized aroma, some sherry, caramel, roasted malts, and dark fruits. Taste of more roasted malts, dried fruits, nuts, and some chocolate, with low bitterness, and no alcohol detected. Creamy mouthfeel. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA
