Bottle drunk on 12/26/2005 Picked this up at the deli around the corner from my hotel in New York City. Pours a dark brown with ruby highlughts. 1/2 inch tan head and very lacy. Smells of sweet rich malt. Lightly nutty. Nice big carmel malt. Rich molassess. Huge malt backbone and surprisingly hoppy. Sticky mouth and lightly smoky. This is money, a great winter ale.

A mixture of 9 malts and 9 hops could easilly turn into a murky mess of a brew, but this strong ale does ok with it. Pours a dark brown (this reminds me as much of a porter as a strong ale), short tan head, good lacing. Aroma is sweet chocolate with hints of caramel, plums. Taste is moderately sweet but balanced with some roasted bitter chocolate and just enough hops (if they used 9, I expedted a little more in the hop department). These HeBrew beers are always interesting at least.

bottle - Pours dark brown with a moderate, fizzy head. There’s a pleasant malty aroma. The flavor has lots of sweet malts and some chocolate notes. I’d call it medium bodied, though maybe if I hadn’t had an imperial stout right before it, I’d call it full. There’s very little hops presence. It comes through slightly in the finish, but could have used more in the flavor. Overall this beer is pretty tastey though. Give it a try.

22 oz bottle into a Trappist glass. Pours a fairly blackish color with a reddish brown hue to it. Very small tannish white head. The aroma is beautiful of sweet malt and chocolate. I smell Belgian yeast in there somewhere as well. Almost sugary the nose is so sweet. The flavor consists of a toned down version of the nose with sweet malts running all over the place, hints of chocolate, a tiny taste of hops, and going into the finish does a bit of coffee come out, which then lingers for a few moments. Very smooth and very tastey beveridge. Somewhat reminds me of the Troubador Mild Stout. Hides the 9% ABV very well until it gently slides into the nose after the finish. Glad we still have tons of this! Added notes after drinking my last bottle on 5/4/09: THIS BEER STILL stands as probably one of the finest products from Hebrew. Just opened the last one, now almost 4 YEARS old, and still the dark and milk chocolate tones, still the thick and warming palate feel, yet, only massively folded into a mild mixture of flavors. Wow. I really wish I had another bottle. Fantastic stuff...if you have more of this, I’d fair to say it would go another 2 years. YUM!!!

I know that they brew them as a joke, but the He’Brew beers really are not bad. This is heavy enough to pass for a stout. Dark chestnut pour, almost black, with a very small head. Great mouth feel. Nose of malts and chocolate; taste of malts and chocolate and dried fruit, offset with enough bitterness. Alcholol is significant but well masked. A very enjoyable strong ale.

Pours very dark brown with a ruby tint. Head is brown / deep tan. Aromas is thick caramel and toffee malt with vinious characteristics - almost white grape coming through. Hints of alcohol are on the aroma, but it wasn’t overkill. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. Heavy roasted malt, coffee, toffee and caramel on the initial taste, then comes sharpness from the carbonation and hops. Finish is sharp with hops - spicy and piney with roasted malts still around. Tingly finish. Good beer overall, but there may be too many flavors going on here.

Bomber. Pours solid heavy black with a filmy tan head that quickly falls to a ring. Elegant thin carbonation streams here and there. Dates, burnt toast, and coffee on the nose. Huge dried fruit on the attack, with a soft mid palate and a long, bitter, clean, coffee finish. Good thick body with plenty of dark specialty malts hinting at their presence, and a nice flourish of hops at the end. The carbonation is light but what’s there is assertive, almost a note of rawness that’s not at all unpleasant.

A cola pour with a huge milk chocolate head and great retention and lacing. Nose is of chocolate, light roasted cherries and slight alcohol. Malts definitely shine through, with bittersweet chocolate, coffee and light toast. The finish has a slightly alcoholic lingering bitter back. The mouthfeel is quite reminiscent of a porter, truth be told. Post-finish, there is a coffee effervescence that holds for a while. Not a bad brew here.
