| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 2, 2009 bottle. dense and syrupy texture, deep cola brown colored body with a tan head, 1/2 inch in thickness, long-lasting. nose is what i’ve come to expect from these Hebrew anniversary beers - a lot going on from a lot of different ingredients but never coming close to any sort of cohesiveness. thankfully the nose isn’t just plain messy, rather it’s disjointed green, leafy hops on top of vanilla, maple and molasses malts and a heavy dose of alcohol and sugar. malt texture is well-rounded, thickness is heavy but body isn’t syrupy as I feared. again a conflict of flavors that doesn’t really ruin the beer but instead makes it forgettable - the raisin, date and molasses-soaked plums fruit notes are overrun with a run/vanilla/caramel flavor and then spiked by a slightly too-assertive and grassy hop bitterness. not as messy as expected, but certainly not a beer that benefits from more ingredients.

. Poursa dark brown with minimal brown head. Nice semisweet chocolatey with brown sugar poptart flavors. Massive malt and slight cherry. Good brew. Hides the abv massively. jb (1041), Rochester, New York, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 5, 2009 On tap at McGregors Henrietta. One of the best I’ve ever had and highly recommend seeking it out. The style it is lumped into is odd, a bit of a catch-all I guess. Seemed like more of a belgian apt / quad or strong or doppel. Mainly because of the heavy dark fruit presence and esters. The look of this started the fabulous beer out right. Thick head, reddish brown highlights peeking out of the black. The head was gushing over the glass as I struggled not to let the nectar slip away. Thick lacing as well. Lots of dark fruit and brown sugar in the nose. Palate was a bit sweet but very well balanced. Nice use of chocolate malt in the back end. Great stuff. DaSilky1 (1989), San Diego, California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 5, 2009 Draft PP Strong Ale Fest: pours a deep burnt chestnut, tan ring of suds above. Smells sweet and malty with some port-like qualities, and nuts. Malty and nutty flavors upon a very smooth, relaxing, cashmere-like body that probably couldn’t be more perfect. Has a nut skin astringency that works, heated booziness that relaxes the spirit, and is just a perfect winter time relaxer. ChainGangGuy (2568), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 5, 2009 Appearance: Presents an imposing black body with some very dark brown hints on the edges of the stemmed tulip glass and capped with a thin layer of creamy-looking, ecru head.
Smell: A heady concentration of rich malts notes -- everything from espresso to chocolate to licorice to sugar-steeped dark fruits to ooey, gooey molasses.
Taste: Willikers! For me, this beer really gives a sense of fresh-baked pumpernickel bread, along with tastes of roasty espresso powder, molasses, powderized dark chocolate, zesty rye, crumbled snickerdoodle cookies, and smoked black licorice. Oh, and lets not forget the dark fruitiness. In the background, there’s a perpetual, bold bitterness peering through the heavy blanket of malts. Warming finish with a concluding taste of pumpernickel.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium carbonation. This one has a very smooth mouthfeel. Why, it’s positively velvety!
Drinkability: A robust, hearty beer packed with flavor and complexity that drinks fairly well given the purported ABV percentage. While it’s a lovely beer now, I’d like to see what a little time tucked away will do to it (which should be easy to do given the very reasonable, sensible price of $4.99). mar (1847), Dallas, Texas, USA

Great on the palate with big flavors of malts, chocolate and alcohol. HonkeyBra (1341), Lemont, Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 3, 2009 Very dark brown pour with tan swirls of head. Aroma of brown sugar, caramel, chocolate, and hops. A touch of vegetable greenness. Flavor is strong, chocolatey and bitter. Flavor has a strong hop presence, but its green like in the aroma. Malt is sweet, bitter chocolate dominating, I feel some dry rye notes as well. Some plum and raisin sweetness bleeds through. Booze peaks through but certainly is felt midway through the bottle. Kinda sticky on the palate. Licorice in the finish. Too much vegetable to be extraordinary. sjolles85 (87), Tampa, Florida, USA
