Very very dark brown, no head. Booze, gasoline, some malt and roast in heavy aroma. Good taste - strong malts and alcohol - and a ton of sneaky green hops, especially in the finish. A straightforward strong hoppy beer that really packs a punch. BeerFanDan17 (621), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 10, 2008 Wow. This was bordering on a barley wine with its strength. A rich and strong ale with an almagam of flavors from dark fruits to coffee and chocolate. Its very diverse and very tasty. blklab2007 (964), Connecticut, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 9, 2008 22 oz bottle poured into a trappist glass has a one finger brown head that diminished quickly on top of the dark brown almost black colored liquid. aroma has thick malt, candy sugar, spiced hops, and dark fruit. mouth feel is medium bordering on heavy with carbonation but not enough to keep it from being thick. loads of chewy malt, hops bitterness, brown sugar, plumb, raisin, and some chocolate. high sweetness as many of there beers have but it works here keeping the bitters in check. the alcohol is under control for such a big beer. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 9, 2008 Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, blankboy, jerc & tupalev - courtesy of blankboy. Deep ruby-brown with a medium tan head. Sweet and malty, with notes of molasses and toffee and green hops. Big, bold flavour, like a well-hopped porter, with a warm and lingering finish. Pretty nice stuff. RichJ7 (1175), Cullman, Alabama, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 8, 2008 Not quite as enjoyable as the 10, but great nonetheless. Huge clash of will between the sweet and rich malt and the earthy, mildly bitter hops. Very nice balance. Definitely an over-the-top beer. Sweet, incredibly rich and delicious. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 7, 2008 Pours brown to black with a tan long lasting tan head. Aroma seems simple at first, but it has a lot to offer. There’s a lot of leafy woodsy hops, black tea, coffee, dark chocolate, a lot of wood. The hops smell pretty typical of brash strong ales and American barley wines. Flavor has a bit of chocolate, caramel, toasted pumperknickel and a ton of wood, astringency and too many dirty leafy hops. Finishes with a bit of a coffee, borderline salty wood flavor, mild earthy bitterness and just big salty wood aftertaste sticking in the throat, demanding a sip of water after every sip of beer. On the other hand, this is nice and creamy, easily drinkable. Hides its alcohol at first, but not as it warms. The malt flavor is really nice, but I wish this was hopped differently and didn’t feel so sticky and salty in the throat. blankboy (3207), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 7, 2008 My bottle (22oz) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc & tupalev -- courtesy of gunhaver. Pours a very dark brown with an average size foamy tan head -- looks nice. Aroma of lightly roasted malt, dark fruit, light green hops, chocolate, some alcohol and more. Flavour of lightly roasted malt, a good amount of floral hops and hints of alcohol (for 11% it’s very well hidden), coffee and dark fruit. Long bitter finish. Medium bodied. I did not expect to like this as much as I did -- this is really good stuff. zappafan99 (462), South Carolina, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 6, 2008 The pour is actually pretty. Did a belgian mate with a chocolate stout? Aroma is mild and complex. Nice foam...slow decline. Taste malt, chocolate, raisin, hops and then many mild things. Makes me feel I have taste buds on the bottom of my tongue. I felt the 11%abv before I tasted it. I see cascade hops as well.
