Aroma of chocolate, molasses, roasted malts, toffee, and some spices. Rich and creamy flavor with caramel sweetness, dark chocolate, molasses, raisins, and notes of coffee, quite complex with a full bodied and has a slight bitter and warming finish. Nicely balanced between the malt and the hops, though each flavor is huge on its own. Plenty of alcohol warming. This beer is such a great tradition. kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 22, 2008 Pours a very tall brown frothy head. Doesn’t collapse very fast. You can "hear" the thickness as you pour it into the glass. VERY hoppy beer with a nice sweetness in the aftertaste. They say there are 11 hops in there. WOW! Never played with that many myself. Bet this will be nice after its had a couple of years to mellow with age. Dark brown color. Plan to run down to Bevmo and pick up a few more bottles to lay down. If anyone wants any hit me up soon with some unique trade offer that I can’t get here in California. drfabulous (1252), Columbia, Missouri, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 21, 2008 Ten hops. Ten malts. Give me ten more! Thick. Syrupy. Malty. A bad ass beer that once again shows how good this brewery is. Let’s roast some lamb tonight and finish the bottle. pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Feb 19, 2008 Pours a deliciously dark warm brown to black with a healthy dark tan head. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say this looks quite a bit like an imperial stout. The nose is kind of in impy stout territory, but so much more depth! than the norm. Aggressive figgy dark fruit. Lightly resinous hops. Some chocolate. More caramel. Fruity. Something softly acrid, kind of raisiny is the only thing I don’t like in the nose. Maybe slightly creamy molasses. This is among the most luscious full mouthfeel I’ve encountered. Big creamy solid, reigned in carbonation, rich! The flavor doesn’t disappoint either. Big ass sweetness, but not too big for it’s britches. Alcohol is very very low for the ABV too. Sweet caramel to chocolate over a rich creamy smoothness. Dark fruits, particularly figs. A bit of toast, but in a good way. Healthy resinous piny hops pull this sucker in. Maybe some raisins? Maybe some cream. The acridity is just some old hops maybe? Though I can’t hardly notice it in the flavor profile. Maybe a bit woody to chalky in the finish. A very good beer. A great beer at first, but one that went downhill a bit with warming. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 18, 2008 This was a real treat. Tasted of strong malt, chocolate, oates, and raisins. Had a very full body with a hint of burntess and some earthy tones. Clean finish and hid the alcohol pretty well. Would buy again. talon1117 (626), Bellvue, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 18, 2008 Pours dark for ASA; very dark muddy brown with reddish hints and limited clarity while the head is average, dense, creamy, and tan. The head settles in a decent amount of time to a small frothy bit leaving some sporatic lace. A lot of interesting things going on in the nose; some definate notes of rum-soaked raisins with buttery molasses, caramels, light resin notes, and faint notes of roast and dark choclate. Flavor is somewhat similar; molasses, dark chcolate, and toffee with mild coffee and resin notes. Bitterness is moderate and warmth is quite high. Palate is full, syrupy, lively, and drying. Finishes quite warm, dry, and long with buttery molasses, some raisin, and lingering resin notes and coffee acidty. There is plenty of intriguing qualities in this one but a bit rough around the edges and a little too brash; those qualities work in IIPA’s and Imp Stouts but didn’t seem to work well with this one. It had a lot of potential but just came up a little better than average.
