The appearance is dark brown, tinge of red, tan head. The flavor is bready, fruity, and malty, again like a dopplebock. The finish is a nice hoppiness, with a sweet malty flavor. Nice beer overall. brewblackhole (1385), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 11, 2009 Burst of alcohol jumped out at me ,then a strange potent mixture, mostly spicey fragrance hops just edging out all that malting for dominace, alcohol stays aggresive, taste is a little less insane, molassas, and raisins rum soaked, not as sharp as aroma, hops flavors now take on the backing roll still with plenty of finishing bitterness. Just enough sweetness to make it a pleasant ,upper strength sipper hayduke (1679), Eureka, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 7, 2009 From a 22 oz bottle this poured a very dark and opaque brown that let no light through and raised a big tan head with good sticky lacing rings. Nose of ripe fruits with raisins, figs, and black cherry. Very thick and rich mouthfeel. Flavor is very rich as well with ripe fruit, vanilla, toffee, and some bitterness from some hops. Long sweet finish, and you would never know this was 12 ABV. Good brew. Cobra (1066), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Apr 1, 2009 22 oz. brown bomber bottle. Torn label, so no freshness date seen. Poured out a deep reddish brown, with a thin, sticky mocha head. Overwhelming aromas of cocoa powder, burnt plums, sour prune juice.
Flavors are sour prune juice, cocoa powder, burnt malts.
Medium body & mouthfeel. Not my cup of tea, as it were. scrizzz (1337), kirkland, Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 31, 2009 Winter spiced aroma of multiple dark grains and dark fruits. Dark toffee, clear with a small head. Sweet dense grain, syrupy weight, and malt forward. Some bitterness in the finish, though a touch more heat. Still I would never guess it to be 12%. Can’t wait until they have their 40 year anniversary! blipp (1751), Newark, New Jersey, USA

The palate is initially a bit harsh. The flavor has sweet malt, caramel, dark fruits and a lingering hoppy bitterness. Not bad. jcwattsrugger (5581), Florida and, New Jersey, USA

Very rich, sweet, aniseed taste. Certainly did not expect to find this in London. Overall an interesting experience but I probably won’t seek it out again.
