Just like Theobroma, a cool idea, but doesn’t quite pan out. And since I’m a anti-semite, I can’t quite dig this brew that much. Very dark-fruity on the nose. Too transparent in appearance. Lots of raisins, plums, some awesomeness, but also yeasty and sour which really brings it down, and it stays too sweet. Not balanced enough, but… yeah, you know where I’m going with this. presario (3001), Calgary, Alberta, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 29, 2009 Big bottle. Very dark brown liquid. Starts with a moderate head and then sits still. Aroma is lighter than expected. Sort of a watered down molasses and dates scent. Wow! What a thick taste. Like an Imperial molasses-soy stout. Brings up thoughts of black wine and SA Triple Bock. Warm spice. A sipper or with a big bottle a sharer. DuffMan (2769), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 29, 2009 Pours a deep mahogany, medium soft brown head. Plummy malty aroma, fruity and a little boozy. Rummy fruitcake and plum flavours, quite sweet, with a medium bitter finish. tjthresh (1779), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 28, 2009 Pour cola brown with a light brown head. The nose is kind of a mess. I get some fig, cocoa, and some kind of messy hop aroma. Kind of smells like cola. Very sugary sweet with a bitter edge. Full body. Oily. Balanced finish. But overall, I’m not feeling it. I think they’ve maxed out the # malts and # hops theme. cking (1041), North Canton, Ohio, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jan 27, 2009 A viscous, sticky strong ale or barleywine more of the English persuasion. Either these bottles need some extended storage time or it’s just not very grand from the get go. Young and harsh at the moment with a very distracting mouth feel and flavor. Dark, opaque red-brown pour with a lasting, filmy brown head and little lacing. Aroma of molasses, figs, vanilla, sweet malts and sugary yeast. Strong alcohol burn and an overly sticky-sweet mouth feel. Thick and syrupy with a tacky finish. Tastes of sugary raisins (the kind from Kellog’s Raisin Bran), boozy red wine, and licorice. A noticeable bitterness. My gut tells me that storage will not improve upon this too much, it’s also telling me it’s had enough and to leave it alone. marcus (1895), Sacramento, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 26, 2009 This dark brown ale poured with a thin brown head that broke down pretty quickly. There is a smoky fruit and malt aroma and a flavor of strong treacle and plum with an alcohol trail. travita (1941), Frisco, Texas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 26, 2009 Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Smell is slightly smokey, meats, malts, alcohol, fruits, and sweet. The look is dark brown to black in color with a little head. Taste is sweet, fruity, malts, alcohol, caramel, and molasses. arrogantb (712), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 25, 2009 Super dark brown with hardly any head at all. It smells like raisins, alcohol, malts, stong ale. Interesting flavors, sorta like old viscosity. Looks like a stout but tastes nothing like one. Thick mouthfeel and a little bit syrupy which affects the drinkability. Overall, this was a very decent offering for $5.
