Aroma of brown sugar, molasses, and caramel...can definitely detect the malt over the hops. Similar flavor: could pour this over pancakes and enjoy it for breakfast. Can’t quite detect maple and not quite syrupy enough but it would add the sweetness I was looking for. Pretty impressive beer.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 15, 2009 Tap at the Sunswick.Poured a flat black with a thin brown head. Very sweet nose with hints of the 12 percent.Very creamy mouthful with light carbonation. Pretty bold flavors with dark fruit notes. Its like a stout mouthful, but a quad taste, yet syrupy at the same time, how is that possible? With twelve of everything this beer is complex, but strong and tasty, definitely worth a try. nathan30533 (166), Dahlonega, Georgia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 14, 2009 Great strong ale. Undescribable with the twelve hops and the malts. WOW is the only word that describes. Little to Carbd for me be aroma and taste are amazing. Sweet and smoky. Taste of wonderful hops. Great Brew. VitaminR (447), Colorado, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jan 13, 2009 Molasses raisin nose. Huge head, black color with a ruby hint. Syrup sweet, burnt smoky sugar, bitterness is big, but not quite enough to balance the sweetness. Heavy body not terribly carbonated for the body, coffee candy finish with huge alcohol burn. Great complexity, just too boozy, too syrupy, not enough fundamental structure to stand up to the extreme alcohol and malts. JPDIPSO (4944), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 12, 2009 Dark brown color with a dark garnet hint as it is poured. Small, but stable tan head. Decent lace. Dark stewed fruit and light alcohol dominate the scents. Earthy licorice, dark chocolate, creosote and a mix of diesel fuel and solvent in the background. Intriguing, but I’m not sold on the scent. Big sweet start that sticks with the liquid into the linger. Dark toasted malt and caramel seep in. Thick feel, but not quite sticky. Alcohol soaked fruit and nuts in the middle. I must say the alcohol, IMO, is everywhere. Not warming in the mouth, but my stomach is certainly feeling it. To me this is just a strong ale. Not refined enough to be a barleywine. Grainy linger. I think this will only end up getting sweeter, which for me does not suggest a revisit. HomeBrewHawk (286), De Soto, Kansas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 11, 2009 22oz bottle served in a snifter. Poured a pretty mahogany with a thin tan head. Aroma of burnt sugar, some hops and a little alcohol. Chocolate comes out in the aroma as it warms. Definitely a malt bomb. A little on the sweet side. Full bodied and rich, it’s a sipper. Lots of molasses and dark fruit. For having twelve hops, there is not much hop bitterness. Malt complexity doesn’t compare to the Eleven which I absolutely loved, but this is a nice old ale. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 11, 2009 Pours a dark brown color with a medium off-white head. Aroma is rich in molasses, brown sugar, alcohol, and some dark fruit. Taste is much the same. This definitely borders on a Wheat/Barley Wine. Juelze (925), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 10, 2009 Pours a deep rusty brown color with medium offwhite head. Aroma is of rich caramel malt, molasses and dark fruit. Taste is much the same with a bit of spiciness and alcohol. This is a full body and chewy ASA which definitely borders on being a barleywine. Still, pretty good bargain at $4.49 for a bomber.
