On tap at The Rake, HogTownHarry visit May 2009. Very deep brown, almost black, thin tan head. Sweetish aroma Pretty good malt, nice bit of roasty toasty notes. I quite like it. It’s boozy, but fine, took me a bit of time to finish even a third of a pint.

Bottle from Keg Liquor. Poured dark brown color with an average fizzy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate nutty malt, caremel and dark fruit aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture with flat carbonation. Medium to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish and small alcohol burn of moderate to long duration. This is a solid brew.

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a large brown head. The aroma was malty and sweet with notes of chocolate and candied dark fruits. The flavor was full with molasses, caramel and candied dark fruits. Touches of bourbon, port wine and cocoa mix through into a long and complex finish. The mouthfeel was very thick and full. Excellent.

It was the fiurst night of Hanukkah so I cracked open a bottle for me and my Bubby. She;s 80 years old and gangster as all hell. She normally drinks Mickey’s after synagogue, so this was a treat. Pour was dark dark dark brown with virtually no head. I poured rough and there was still no complete head. No strong scents I could pick up. I think I smelled Jew sweat and roasted walnuts. Taste was surprising, I expected it to clone the Palo Santo Marron from DFH, bu it was actually very similar to a normal Brown Ale, with less carbonation, more booze, more hops, but that same body. Flavor was ok, pretty unique and pleasant. 12% was hidden extremely well. I wanted a fuller heavier body, mainly because a highly drinkable 12% beer could spell disaster for my carpet.

Old review from notes. On tap at The Red in Santa Cruz. Dark brown color with a light tan head that sticks around forever, almost like a nitro pour. Very sweet, dark aroma with prunes, molasses, pepper, alcohol, chocolate and roasted malt. Flavor is black cherries, brown sugar, prunes, dark yeasty dough, and plenty of booze. Thick body with subdued carbonation. Interesting beer but far too sweet and a little hot.

This poured a dark dark brown with a small head, light beige maybed. Aroma was lots of roasted malts, some sweetness, and dark fruits. Flavor was lots of things melded together very well, dark roasted malts, dark fruits, molasses, tiny bits of alcohol. This hides the alcohol extremely well.

Really dark pour with a small off white head. Nice rich body. Big aroma of sweet malts, fruit, spice and some mellow hops. Taste is sweet and smooth and highly drinkable for 12%.

Pours nearly opaque black, with light tan head that recedes to a thin layer around the rim. Nose is tepid with a slight nougat-chocolate aroma. Palate has distinct favors of milk chocolate, cola, light herbs, and a slight tartness on the finish. Boring.
