| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 31, 2009 Winter spiced aroma of multiple dark grains and dark fruits. Dark toffee, clear with a small head. Sweet dense grain, syrupy weight, and malt forward. Some bitterness in the finish, though a touch more heat. Still I would never guess it to be 12%. Can’t wait until they have their 40 year anniversary! blipp (1669), Newark, New Jersey, USA

The palate is initially a bit harsh. The flavor has sweet malt, caramel, dark fruits and a lingering hoppy bitterness. Not bad. jcwattsrugger (5333), Florida and, New Jersey, USA

Very rich, sweet, aniseed taste. Certainly did not expect to find this in London. Overall an interesting experience but I probably won’t seek it out again. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 26, 2009 Bottle (22oz). Shared with blankboy, garthicus, gregclow, jerc and tupalev. Deep clear ruby with an average off-white pour. Simple but appealing aroma - very sweet roast caramel with plenty of sugary fruit and booze - oddly, I really dug this one. The taste delivered exactly what I expected from the aroma - very sweet and boozy, a hint of burnt sugar, quite yeasty in behind. The main palate impression from this beer was: sticky; boozy; sweet. tomthompson89 (1488), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 25, 2009 Bottle pours a dark espresso brown with a tan head that fades rather quickly to a thin outer ring. Aroma of black cherries, vanilla, roasted malts, raisins, and alcohol. Flavor is quite sweet initially, dark chocolate, roasted coffee, vanilla, and a slight oakiness. Lasting sweetness mixed with a nice bitterness in the finish. The 12 percent alcohol, although noticeable in the aroma, is quite hidden in the flavor. garthicus (1289), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
