Aroma of chocolate, hops and oak. Flavor got better with time. Had the standard brown ale backbone; however oak, dark fruit and slightly grassy hops merged together to create a very tasty and unusual brew. Sampled with golubj who thought it tasted like fruit juice. ChetLemmons (87), orlando, Florida, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 16, 2007 Pours a dark brown with lots of red highlights. Only a bit of head. Flavors are not bold as the name would suggest. Chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. There is a mild chocolate aftertaste. This beer reminds me of a porter lite. carboloader (319), Houston, Texas, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 14, 2007 Pours opaque with tall thick tan head that lasts forever. Much lacing. Kind of flat. No clear roasty flavors like most dark brown ales. Nondescript alcohol. Thin on palate. Easy to drink, but neither hops nor malts stand out. Nothing offensive, but pretty plain and boring to me. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 21, 2007 Bottle. Pours a deep red-brown with very thin head. Aroma is of malt, slightly toasty in nature. Flavors are rich and malty, notes of chocolate, toast, hints of roasted nuts. Has a decent amount of bitterness with light woody and floral hoppiness. Chewy, with medium carbonation. Finish is lightly bitter and lightly acidic, leaving you with dark malts. Well balanced and quite good, I think this one is underrated. badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 18, 2007 My first reaction was nit had an initial metallic taste. It didn’t have the malt smoothness ihave learned to expect from a Brown. It seemed to be over-hopped, leaving a hop dominant aftertaste. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 14, 2007 Thanks to Fordest for this - Dark transluscent maroon pour with a light offwhite head. Very light smell at first of mildly roasted malt, perhaps a bit nutty. Flavor is nice and rich however, and packs a good roasty kick, lightly bittered in the finish, with a good hearty, but lively mouthfeel. This was one of my favorite brown ales by far, and one I’d easily recommend.
