Dark brown color, with little light coming through. Nothing in the way of aroma unless you swirl the glass, and then its not overwhelmingly strong. Perhaps a little whif of cocoa. Nice refreshing brown ale. Nice aftertaste of malts on the tongue. Not overwhelmingly hoppy, which is good. Nothing particularly blares out at me to go in search of it, but I could easily see myself buying it again, especially if it was freshly on draft..

Medium-sized head settles to a nice little skullcap. Aroma is great balance of chocolate molasses, smoke, caramel, metallic herbs and other unknowable stuff. Tastes of all that, plus roasted nuts, spicy raisins and just the right amount of bitter herbs. Palate is smooth, light-medium bodied and refreshing. I really wasn’t expecting much from this one based on other Mendocinos I have tasted, but man is this one ever underrated! I love Browns and this is one of the best. Glazed9884 (207), USA

Nutty flavour with a malty backbone. Quick disappearing finish, with light hoppy bite Crit (2409), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 6, 2007 Bottle. Brown beer with a small tan head. Aroma of rich dark malts. Flavor is a tad better than the Genesis. Malty with some spicy, astringent hops. Prickly on the tongue. Bitter finish and aftertaste. Not bad but barely worth the premium price. Great label.
