| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 2, 2007 Pours a very dark brown, especially for a brown ale. Doesn’t allow much light through. The head is standard, medium thickness, creamy, and light tan. The aroma is very distinct. Smells very nutty, roasted nuts, roasted malt, cereal grain. Tastes fairly nutty too, definite roasted character, very crisp, actually some alcohol showing, very satisfying, very surprising. I dont think this beer has gotten enough credit. The palate is crisp and it goes down easy imparting is roasty and nutty character along the way. Overall I was very surprised by this brown ale. Would be an excellent session brew. I recommend trying it. doughert82 (19), Bay Area, California, USA

| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Mar 14, 2007 My Dad bought me a bottle of this for Christmas, and I liked it so I bought a 6 pack. I later regretted this because this beer has such a nasty, bitter aftertaste that I actually dreaded having to finish it and gave the rest of the bottles away to unsuspecting friends. morrdt (608), Jacksonville, Florida, USA

I have to admit I bought this just for the name, but after trying this, I was really impressed. Pours dark brown with a white head. Aroma of hops and a bit of what I think is molasses. Solid with tastes of coffee, molasses, a dash of chocolate. The aftertaste kicked in to say, "Yes I am a brown ale." I am pleased with this offering. cazort (419), Newark, Delaware, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 9, 2007 (Bottle) This is a darker beer than I expected, much like a porter. The aroma isn’t terribly exciting; there is a hint of roast, which develops into a strong roasted flavour as you drink it. Pleasant bitterness--a tiny bit too sweet, which gives it a heaviness I could do without, but overall this is a very good brew. I agree with the claim that there is a "complex hop character"--the hops are present and tasty. The beer has a flat texture, little carbonation, but this fits with the overall style. This is a winner. The other reviewers’ comments make me wonder about the consistency, however, as other people are reporting a sweet beer with heavy carbonation. The beer I drank was not like this--and it was quite excellent. BDR (2167), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
