Commercial Description:
Contract brewed for Schmaltz Brewing Company. A deep, bold nut brown ale beautifully balanced with rich dark malts and a complex hop character converging to reveal a simply enchanting elixir.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass, very dark brown with a slight tan head. Aroma was not pronounced and was primarily of roasted malt. The roasted malt dominated the flavor with note of decaffeinated coffee and maybe some baking chocolate. Not overly carbonated. Only a slight bitterness and a watery mouthfeel. Nothing special here.

From a 12 oz. bottle with a blurb along the left side of label, no freshness date. Poured a dark coffee brown with a small foamy off-white head that settled into a thin bubbly, sudsy lacing. minimal amount of laced sticking. Aromas of fruity esters, toffee and caramel, and a earthy mineral. Moderate carbonation and a softly crisp, dryish thin, medium bodied mouthfeel. A thin, metallic malty taste, roasted grains, earthy and caramel with twinges of metal, barely noticeable hops with a very soft bitterness, a wet paper taste towards the end, and a dry tannis, malty finish. I have been impressed with some of the He’Brew beers, but not this one, not very tasty or drinkable.

Bottle. Sweet malty and light chocolate roast nose. Touch of lactose. Body is deep brown-red with a creamy tanned/light-brown head. Faint flavor is the nose liquified. Lightly roasted and toffee finish, lactose lingers a bit. Touch of wood and nuttiness. Medium-thin body. Boring.

12oz bottle pours deep amber with tan head. The aroma is light and has hints of sweet malts and just a dab of hops. The flavor is full-on sweet and roasted maltiness. I taste caramelized malts, roasted malts and bits of coffee and burnt malts. Riding around the edges of the flavor is a tasty hop bitterness.

12 oz. bottle. Aroma of pitted fruits (plums, apricots) and dark chocolate. Smells like a stronger beer than it is. Pours a translucent dark brown with a gold/orange hue and a small amount of beige head. Roasted malt flavor with elements of dark chocolate and peanuts. Sour citrus hops. Lingering malt sweetness that becomes dominant after multiple sips. Coffee-bitter aftertaste. Medium body. A bit boring in the palate. This is a decent beer, if a tad too sweet. I actually liked it a little more than the total score of 3.3 would indicate, but I can’t decide on any category to raise.
