| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 7, 2007 12oz bottle pours deep amber with tan head. The aroma is light and has hints of sweet malts and just a dab of hops. The flavor is full-on sweet and roasted maltiness. I taste caramelized malts, roasted malts and bits of coffee and burnt malts. Riding around the edges of the flavor is a tasty hop bitterness. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Feb 6, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Aroma of pitted fruits (plums, apricots) and dark chocolate. Smells like a stronger beer than it is. Pours a translucent dark brown with a gold/orange hue and a small amount of beige head. Roasted malt flavor with elements of dark chocolate and peanuts. Sour citrus hops. Lingering malt sweetness that becomes dominant after multiple sips. Coffee-bitter aftertaste. Medium body. A bit boring in the palate. This is a decent beer, if a tad too sweet. I actually liked it a little more than the total score of 3.3 would indicate, but I can’t decide on any category to raise. Sweet caramel and yeast aroma. The sweet hits the front of the tongue but is nicely balanced by bitterness -- I was actually tasting chicory. In appearance, taste and mouthfeel, it’s halfway between a Nut Brown and a light Stout or Porter. The finish was a bit thin, but overall not a "heavy" dark beer but good for quaffing. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 26, 2007 Deep red-brown with a moderate tan head displaying decent retention. Toast, caramel, and resin combine to give an interesting aroma. Rich roasted malt with a healthy dose of green piney hop character in relatively equal proportion, moderately bitter finish. Thoroughly enjoyable, and something that keeps the palate interested without being overwhelmed-- I could easily drink this all night. waolsen (1223), Littleton, Colorado, USA
