| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 30, 2009 Enjoyed from a 12oz bottle in a pub glass. The beer pours a deep brown color, with a slightly off-white head that lasts a fairly long time. The aroma impresses, giving notes of caramel and malt. The palate is decidedly an indicator of this beer’s English leanings. Instead of the assertive hoppiness familiar in American brown ales, it leans decidedly toward malt. Thankfully so, as the complexity of the malt profile is very good. Overall, a great brown ale. TheEpeeist (1494), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 22, 2009 12 oz bottle. Dark brown with whitish froth. Nose is prune and molasses. Medium body with a sharp tingle. Taste is grape, brown sugar and root beer. Pretty good to start but like most Browns i’ve tried the burnt sugar and bitter ashy finish are too much. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 21, 2009 Sixer purchased at Rozi’s in Lakewood. This has a slight cola-likeness to it, which is kinda weird. Besides that it is quite enjoyable. Lots of body to it and a pretty nice roasted flavor with some brown sugar sweetness. The end is a little flimsy, but has a light coffee tinted finish. Elwood (684), Leesburg, Virginia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 21, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours a deep ruby brown with the thinnest of white heads. Roasted malt, a little nuttiness, and a little vinous note in the nose. The nose is a bit lighter than I was expecting. Medium carbonation with a medium-rich mouthfeel. Caramel, light earth notes, and a little raisin on the palate. Medium finish. Overall a little light in the complexity department, but still a very tasty brown ale. hoppopotamus (187), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 18, 2009 A nice dark red beer with a modest tan head. Aroma is chocolate and coffee, flavor is understated burnt toast and a bit bitter. Mouthfeel is thin. This is a pretty one-dimensional beer, just a bit of roast malt. But its enjoyable. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jun 11, 2009 Dark brown brew with a slight reddish hue. Produced a small tan head with decent retention and some patchy lacing but left rings near the bottom of the glass. Lots of early aroma but I found that most of that fades quickly. Rich toasted malts, slight fruit, some coffee and a bith of caramel, both of which are soft. Dry and dusty with a touch of chlorine too...mmm mmm! Lots of tasty roasted malts, noticable yeast, a small ammount of average bitter tasting hops and a touch of fruit. Has an odd sour / bitter overall mouthfeel that I really thought sucked. Medium bodied and lightly carbonated. I think I can drink lots of these even though I thought the beer felt like garbage. thebeertourist (2822), Oslo, Norway
