It’s more of a porter. This has a hint of sourness and is a touch fizzy and thin. Thicker than a schwarzbier, Messiah Stout lacks what might push it into greatness. aroma of roast malt with coffee notes
thin oily palate and a rather weak undefined flavor that hinted at chocolate and caramel.
the name is clearly a gimmick but was expecting better since this is contract brewed by anderson valley Zach Diesel (907), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 27, 2002 big roasted aroma, roasted, dry, hoppy with a kinda metallic aftertaste, my main beef is that it’s way too light bodied GregL40 (97), Massachusetts, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 13, 2002 Definitely a funny beer. The aroma punches me in the face with a maccaroonish quality. Too watery to qualify as a good stout texture wise. There was no head either but its a nice color. I wanna say it has a prune flavor...so I will. It has a prunish flavor. Although it’s the chosen beer, I wouldn’t choose it again. Davhgbrew (418), Boca Raton, Florida, USA

As Gregl40 pointed out I think I actually smell macaroons in this one. Hey it is He’brew! igneous1 (1374), Davenport, Iowa, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 13, 2002 wow, i’m shocked at these low rating..guess i just liked something in the beer the others didnt. 100% opaque, slight light brown head, mild roasty coffee aroma. bitter chocolate coffee flavors with the bitterness lingering into the finish...hoppiest Stout I’ve had. uglybastard (101), Riverside, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 27, 2002 There is something wrong with this beer. I poured it into my glass and got about an inch and a half of liquid, and the rest was head. I didn’t even pour it that vigorously. It took me about 5 minutes to get the head to beer ratio right. When it happened the light brown head stayed their until the very end. Had a light brown head atop a black body. Lots of burnt flavors abound, some coffee and citrius in there as well. The beer had a lot of carbonation, but that didn’t bother me. I think the extra carbonation cut through some of the flavors nicely.
