With the deep red-brown-ness, and a bit of chocolate in the smelling, plus there’s this tasting of the fruit and spice and some hops and more chocolate and this pain I have in my side and my children never call and you’d think I could maybe once get a decent bagel on this site? | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 2, 2004 A sweet chocolate and wood aroma that has tiny bit of chocolate. Creamy tan head that eventually flat lines leaving a film cover over a dark brown beer. Smoked malt flavor with a superficial chocolate taste. Very hard to detect fruits but raisin and plum are apparent. While finishing the pint i realized it wasnt as well balanced in sweetness and bittering hops as i had thought from the first few drinks. The little caption about the number 8 and the relevance to jewish heritage and celebrity ethnicity ties are a crack up. Volgon (2489), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 28, 2004 Dark, dark brown beer with 50% tan, foam topping. Sweet roasty malt aroma. The flavor is super sweet at first, with underpinnings of molasses, and bitter sugars. Sharp ... would go great with some cheese soup. This is a full bodied very malty beer that’s mildly hopped with a slightly bitter aftertaste. A hint of spice, caramel, molasass and maybe some smoke make up it’s body. Would make for a wonderful after dinner drink. I enjoyed it. argo0 (6956), Washington DC, USA

Malty, spicey nose. Full/medium body, oily. Medium sweet malts, molasses, lightly piney with licorice notes and a hint of smoke also. A surprisingly decent quaff. jazz88 (2237), San Francisco, California, USA

A molasass, nut, burnt malts and bread (maybe gingerbread) in the aroma. Not the most festive of aromas. A solid relatively full bodied malty flavor with a subtle coffee aftertaste.
