Props up a dense, thick beige head with superb retention. No lacing noted. Nose is a bit tame but sweet. Notes of roasted malts, raisins, figs, brown sugar and hints of chocolate and charred wood come through. Palate is full, round and chewy with a pleasant creaminess. Flavors are quite assertive and firm. One gets an initial hit of dark caramel candy, dark dried fruit, licorice and chocolate malt-ball sweetness which is immediately followed by a balancing presence of dark roasted malts, bittersweet chocolate, charcoal and hops. Alcohol is just slightly warming; very reserved for 10% indeed. For $4.49 this 22 oz’er was well worth it and will be re-visited. Nephilium (553), Ohio, USA

The beer itself is beautiful, almost black, with red highlights visible when heald up to the light, a thin offwhite head that faded quickly, leaving lacing behind. The flavor is far sweeter then I expected, strong raisin flavor, with hints of sugar, and just a touch of coffee on the finish. The mouthfeel is thick and oily, coating the mouth, yet not cloying. Overall a good strong ale, but from reading of 10 hops, I was probably expecting more of a DIPA. Emil (6074), Copenhagen, Denmark

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 20, 2007 Bottle. Average creamy light brown head that mostly diminished. Fair display of lacework. Very dark looking brew. Aroma was a lovely mix of caramel, grain, molasses, burned and nutty notes, rye bread, light floral and grapefruit notes as well. Full bodied with an average carbonation and alcoholic texture. Flavor was moderated sweet malty base with light bitter floral notes. Sweet and lingering finish. Quit nice. joergen (8610), Frederiksberg, Denmark
