Initially sweet, then a dense malty roasted aroma. Bitter, nutty flavor, roasted chocolate notes, good god this stuff is good. Good night. bdigital (590), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 31, 2007 Murky brown pour, medium-sized tan head. Nose of sweet bread dough, toffee, dark malt and a subtle hop profile. Slightly dry when it first hits the tongue yet proceeds to a malty, nutty, mildly sweet finish. Very nice and one that I would love to try again. billk (300), Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, USA

At the risk of being seen as anti-semitic this was drain pour for me. Tasted like some herbal remedy whipped up by a witch doctor and presented as the only thing that stood between me and certain death. Reminded me of the Belgian ales like Rochefort 10 that are so popular, but without the classy Belgian nuances. Candy sweetness, strong, distracting alcohol flavor, just not my style. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 28, 2007 Dark pour mostly brown some light red hughes. A nice thick tall tan head w/ good lacing. Slightly light aroma, definate alcohol some roasty malt aromas light nuts and a touch of plum and carmel. Palate is full, well coated and lightly creamy. Flavor is lots of roast malts, a dry piney finish some sweet carmels some more roast, almost a light smoke and some definate alcohol notes that could easily be more subtle. thick khaki-colored lacing, sticks around for a while and leaves a thin trail of delicate lace. Nice, warm aroma with hints of dates, molasses, raisins, and
a wee bit of alcohol. Malty flavor, traces of chocolate, molasses, nuts and dates. Mouthfeel is thick and rich - 10% ABV is hidden extremely well. Improves as it warms. LinusStick (1847), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 5, 2007 Nice American strong and alot different than I was expecting. Pour was a so so dark brown with no head. Aroma was dark and thick...nuts, iced tea and and dark fruits. Taste was sticky and hot. Dark fruits, roasted malt and molasses were in the fore. The thickness coated my throat in the swallow leaving behind some bitterness of hops but not much. Little carbonation. Strong alcohol burn. mhelgason (495), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
