Commercial Description:
CREATION, 1996, C.E.: On the floor of a San Francisco Mission District loft, intimate friends squeeze luscious pomegranates by hand to brew the first 100 cases of the original HE’BREW beer. EVOLUTION: The culmination of the first decade of Shmaltz Brewing and a core offering for our second, ORIGIN renews this sacred covenant, sacrificing over 10,000 pomegranates for each precious hand-crafted batch. REVELATION, on-going: In Jewish tradition, pomegranates symbolize righteousness with seeds said to number 613, the total commandments in Torah. In Deut. 8:8, pomegranates, barley and wheat prove the bounty of the Land of Milk and Honey. The calyx atop the fruit inspired the original Jewish crown. One Persian hero of myth consumed a pomegranate and became invincible. Muhammad instructed: ’Eat the pomegranate, for it purges the system of envy and hatred.’ Newlywed Greeks eager for a family crush one under-heel for fertility. Buddha cured a child-devouring demoness of her evil habit by instructing her to eat a pomegranate. Whether for knowledge or temptation, for virtue or valor, for art or for love, revel in the sumptuous pleasure of ORIGIN. To life...L’Chaim!

Bottle (22oz). My bottle shared with blankboy, garthicus and tupalev. Clear amber, small diminishing off-white head. Sweet aroma, floral, tart fruit. Taste - mostly tart fruit, herbal bitter finish. Average, moderately acidic body - pretty tasty.

Bottle. Amber pour with an off white head. Aroma is lightly piney/floral with a grapefruit accent. Pomegranite is not overpowering, more like an amber ale in character than a fruit beer. Pretty good.

Pours a clear but dull light ruby with a thin bubbly white froth. Sweet fruity malt aroma with definite pomegranate and some citrus hops, smells sticky. This is a great fruit beer!!! because it is a beer first... then fruit second. The pomegranates merge so harmoniously with what seems like a rye ipa. The pomegranates add just the right amount of sweet/tartness for the grapefruit flavor. Glassy body, medium full, with smooth bubbly carbonation. This is a very very underrated beer.... [reminds me of dieu du ciel]

copper/orange pour with off white head, aroma is typical of an amber ale with a slight fruit funk, the flavor is slightly bitter but I’m not picking up the pomegranate maybe a little bit at the back of my throat but not as much as what i was expecting. Overall I think this is good as an amber ale but not a fruit beer.

Bottle shared by cdumler. Thanks! Orange pour with a small head. Hoppy aroma dominated by pomegranate. Multidimensional taste was caramel... pomegrate... caramel. Pomegranate is a little much. Full bodied.

1PT, 6Fl oz, brown bottle. Deep gold/amber in colour, compact whitish head which is creamy, leaves sticky blotchy lace in the glass. Aroma is sweetish with a trace of grapefruit. In the mouth, the beer has some fruity malts (berry notes), caramel malts, grapefruity hops come out near the end. Moderate bitterness with a little fruit sweetness in the finish. Medium body, a little syrupy. Light carbonation profile.
