SamGamgee (1394), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Nov 7, 2009 22oz bottle. Red-brown color with good clarity and a lasting med-small beige head. The flavor is sweet and fruity with plenty of dried fruit. Reminiscent of cloves, vanilla, green apple, and dates. Spiced cakes with cream cheese frosting. It’s a nice aroma that I’m getting a lot out of. The flavor is pretty sweet and malty with some rich bread-crust sweetness and date sugariness. Seems like a sweet bock with some date fruitiness and just a hint of yeasty spice. Almost heavy in body with fine carbonation. I can’t say that I really love this, but it’s not offensive either. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Nov 7, 2009

17thfloor (1402), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 3, 2009 22oz bottle. Pours a rich clear dark glowing mahogany, lovely creamy off-white froth. Rich fruity aroma, very malty, nice Belgian yeast, some date sweetness. Flavor is rich, lightly fruity, Belgian yeast, some light coffee, finishing a bit bitter, somewhat hot with a lingering tannic aftertaste. Medium bodied, a bit fuller, smooth half velvety / half sticky, somewhat viscous. roder60 (1019), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 31, 2009 Had at a monthly beer club meeting. Poured a clear lighter brown with a medium offwhite bubbly head that doesn’t last long. Aroma is toasted malts and dark fruits with a slight rumminess. Flavor a bit light, sweet malt character with slight roasty bitterness and a plummy boozy finish. Overall, pretty decent. mj (4971), Colorado, USA Oct 30, 2009 bottle. filtered clear chestnut brown body with a medium sized tan head. nose of sour mashed corn and other starchy vegetables, with smaller notes of vanilla extract and rye whiskey. mild acidity up front, more sour mash, corn and rye across the middle. rough carbonation, rough malt. i tend to find these hebrew beers drinkable and a few of them enjoyable, but this one is a mess. Strykzone (1458), Wood River, Illinois, USA Oct 26, 2009 This is a date bomb. Dark reddish brown in color. A tan head. Mostly dark fruit in aroma. Flavor again is dates along with cherries. It is musty and dusty. Malt and yeast. Dates reign supreme here. Interesting and unique but an over abundance of those dates. Cletus (4999), Connecticut, USA Oct 24, 2009 Pours copper with an off white head. Smells of caramel, roasty, fruity, peppery, spicy.
