Commercial Description:
Contract brewed for Schmaltz Brewing Company. Sacred Species No.2 YEAR OF THE DATE "The righteous shall flourish like the Date palm." Psalm 92:12. Hark! The second coming of REJEWVENATOR, infused for 2009 with the sacred DATE. Jewish tradition celebrates two New Years: The first in Spring after the barley harvest. The High Holidays in Fall mark the creation of the world. Harvest to harvest - the perfect bookends for deliciousness! Dates were used to sweeten beer in Ancient Egypt as early as 3500 BCE. Pliny the Elder, 1st c. Roman naturalist, lauded Judea’s Dates for their succulence and sweetness. So important for food and shelter, the Date palm became a symbol for the Kingdom of Judea, stamped on the ancient and modern Israeli Shekel coins. Shaking your Lulav on Sukkot and covering your kosher Sukkah demands Date palm leaves. Palm Sunday reenacts the procession of Jesus into Jerusalem. In Arabic, "Tamr" is the 4th stage of a Date’s ripening. Mohammed: "Whoever eats seven fresh Tamr fruits at breakfast shallrise above magic and poison on that day." The Hebrew word for Date palm is "Tamar", commonly describing the beauty and elegance of a woman. Solomon’s sister was named Tamar. "The only difference between a date and a job interview is that not many job interviews have a chance that you’ll end up naked at the end of it." -Jerry Seinfeld. Like its Latin genus the Pheonix, rise and shine with our newest Double Date Shmoppelbock - and flourish! L’Chaim!

22oz bottle. Red-brown color with good clarity and a lasting med-small beige head. The flavor is sweet and fruity with plenty of dried fruit. Reminiscent of cloves, vanilla, green apple, and dates. Spiced cakes with cream cheese frosting. It’s a nice aroma that I’m getting a lot out of. The flavor is pretty sweet and malty with some rich bread-crust sweetness and date sugariness. Seems like a sweet bock with some date fruitiness and just a hint of yeasty spice. Almost heavy in body with fine carbonation. I can’t say that I really love this, but it’s not offensive either.

22oz bottle. Pours a rich clear dark glowing mahogany, lovely creamy off-white froth. Rich fruity aroma, very malty, nice Belgian yeast, some date sweetness. Flavor is rich, lightly fruity, Belgian yeast, some light coffee, finishing a bit bitter, somewhat hot with a lingering tannic aftertaste. Medium bodied, a bit fuller, smooth half velvety / half sticky, somewhat viscous.

Had at a monthly beer club meeting. Poured a clear lighter brown with a medium offwhite bubbly head that doesn’t last long. Aroma is toasted malts and dark fruits with a slight rumminess. Flavor a bit light, sweet malt character with slight roasty bitterness and a plummy boozy finish. Overall, pretty decent.

bottle. filtered clear chestnut brown body with a medium sized tan head. nose of sour mashed corn and other starchy vegetables, with smaller notes of vanilla extract and rye whiskey. mild acidity up front, more sour mash, corn and rye across the middle. rough carbonation, rough malt. i tend to find these hebrew beers drinkable and a few of them enjoyable, but this one is a mess.

This is a date bomb. Dark reddish brown in color. A tan head. Mostly dark fruit in aroma. Flavor again is dates along with cherries. It is musty and dusty. Malt and yeast. Dates reign supreme here. Interesting and unique but an over abundance of those dates.
