Commercial Description:
Contract brewed for Schmaltz Brewing Company. Sacred Species No.2 YEAR OF THE DATE "The righteous shall flourish like the Date palm." Psalm 92:12. Hark! The second coming of REJEWVENATOR, infused for 2009 with the sacred DATE. Jewish tradition celebrates two New Years: The first in Spring after the barley harvest. The High Holidays in Fall mark the creation of the world. Harvest to harvest - the perfect bookends for deliciousness! Dates were used to sweeten beer in Ancient Egypt as early as 3500 BCE. Pliny the Elder, 1st c. Roman naturalist, lauded Judea’s Dates for their succulence and sweetness. So important for food and shelter, the Date palm became a symbol for the Kingdom of Judea, stamped on the ancient and modern Israeli Shekel coins. Shaking your Lulav on Sukkot and covering your kosher Sukkah demands Date palm leaves. Palm Sunday reenacts the procession of Jesus into Jerusalem. In Arabic, "Tamr" is the 4th stage of a Date’s ripening. Mohammed: "Whoever eats seven fresh Tamr fruits at breakfast shallrise above magic and poison on that day." The Hebrew word for Date palm is "Tamar", commonly describing the beauty and elegance of a woman. Solomon’s sister was named Tamar. "The only difference between a date and a job interview is that not many job interviews have a chance that you’ll end up naked at the end of it." -Jerry Seinfeld. Like its Latin genus the Pheonix, rise and shine with our newest Double Date Shmoppelbock - and flourish! L’Chaim!

On tap at Rattle N Hum
Appearance: dark amber brown with mid creamy top.3+
Nose: new aroma to me , I am only guessing this must be dates , bit of alcohol on top
Flavor/Palate : Mid bodied with fuller sides. Bit chewy , oily in character. Malty with stronger date flavours noted with time. Good.

On tap. Clear orangey brown with a creamy, beige head. Aroma of dried and overripe fruit and Belgian yeast. Rather full body, dried fruit and perhaps a little yeast. Fairly alcoholic finish with a discreet bitterness. Doppelbock?? 120709

Bottle. Rich caramel beer with a tan head. Fruity, earthy, caramel aroma. Caramel/toffee flavor with earth, dark fruits/date, and alcohol. Medium bodied. Brown sugar/caramel/toffee lingers with dark fruit.

22oz bomber. Fruity malt aroma. Patchy, soapy head. Amber-brown color. Slight warm on the palate, some dark fruity bitterness as well. A tad thick and syrupy. Dopple and Dubbel is an awkward combination, and the sweet date syrup adds to the mess. Sweet, sugary finish. OK at best.

Draught at OT. Small head almost not existent. Deep dark red that when you have just a small amount left is supricingly like cognac in a sniffer. Small but typical belgian aroma. Some warming alcohol toghether with the typical belgian double taste. The malts is sweet and the body rather big. The bitterness is low.l

22oz brown bottle served in a Duvel glass. Poured a clear reddish brown with a thin tan head. Good malty nose with some dark fruit like raisins. Solid malt base with some toffee. Nice rich mouthfeel, medium body. Hints of Belgian yeast spicieness in the finish. Very easy drinking. Don’t try to classify, just enjoy this one. These guys do malt very well. Another unique beer from Shmaltz. They can be hit or miss with their experimentation, but when they hit, I tend to enjoy it.
