DocLock (4085), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA May 12, 2008 Bottle from State Line. Pours clear deep ruby color with 1-finger egg creamy head. Nose is caramel malt, fig, mild pomegranate, berries, and hops. Tastes rich, malty, with fig, brown sugar, berry, hops, and that semi harsh yet full bodied house quality that Hebrew beers seem to have. Bottle #5757 of 1996 (yeah, that’s a joke).
Aubrey (2592), Denver, Colorado, USA Aug 29, 2008 Murky burgundy; thin head. Full and rewarding on the tongue. Rich malt flavors filled with molasses and toffee, plus a cornucopia of fruit flavors (fig, apple, pear, raisin). Nice amount of earthy-grassy hops to boot. Another tasty He’Brew. jcwattsrugger (3862), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Aug 25, 2008 22oz bottle-pours a light tan head and copper/red color. The aroma after the initial burst, is mild sweet medium/dark malt, dark fruit. Taste is sweet medium/dark malt-caramel/chocolate, roasty, dark fruit-fig/raisin, secondary hops bitterness. Semi dry finish. Medium body. Good carbonation. Thanks to Joe-jwc215 for picking this out. Heathen (502), Riverside, New Jersey, USA Aug 23, 2008 THOUGHTS: A nice beer. I usually love He’brew beers, but this isn’t nearly as good as most of their offerings. Reminds me of a watery or at least lighter Raison D’etre. Actually probably a great beer, but a sorta weak He’brew at the same time.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, dark red with a small tan head that fully diminished that left virtually no lacing. The aroma was raisin, apple, cherry and something else that must have been fig, along with some red wine, alcohol, moderate to heavy molasses and slight cereal malt. The initial flavor was light to moderately sweet and moderately acidic; while the finish was moderate to heavily sweet, lightly acidic and moderately bitter with an average duration. There was molasses, what must be fig, but also raisin, apple, cherry, alcohol and then some hops right at the end. The light to medium body was syrupy and sticky on the lips with fizzy carbonation and a metallic, light astringent and light to moderate alcoholic finish. NJBeerman013 (579), Trenton, New Jersey, USA Aug 23, 2008 Bottle. A dark ruby brown in color with very little head. It has a slightly fruity aroma, but not of figs. Interesting. I think it is more of an alcoholic, candied oranges kind of aroma. The flavor has a strongly hopped APA quality with a medium heavy body and a tangy but fast finish. Oakes (6853), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Aug 23, 2008 Golden-brown. Clear, but sufficiently dark so as not to see through it. No head. Figgy aroma with date syrup, tomato and a piloncillo like dark sugar note. Soft, somewhat chewy but the sugars tone it down. Understated bitterness and a warming finish. Fits in somewhere between a dubbel and an old ale. One of Hebrew’s better efforts.
