Nothing exciting really, about as basic as it gets. The flavor was quite mellow, a little chocolate bitterness with a malty sweet aftertaste. middle of the road is the best way I can describe it. Medium bodied and lacking in some distinct flavors. Average. Jmichael (633), Asheville, North Carolina, USA

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 23, 2006 Draught. Pours on the black side of mahogany with a very fast-fading light beige head. The aroma is caramel, charcoal, some sticky wood notes, and cold coffee. The flavor has a shocking quantity of hops that I would usually associate with a German lager. There are some sweet toffee notes and a bit of diacetyl. The finish is ashy. I’m not really impressed. NachlamSie (1644), Tennessee, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 24, 2006 Draught at Nick & Nate’s. Pours a dark brown with a minimal white head. The body is not quite opaque, some light comes through and makes it appear a little red. There is minimal roastiness in the aroma with some nuttiness. Sweet almonds and a bit of coffee with a touch of diacetyl are in the mix. This is quite drinkable, but reminds me more of a solid, slightly roasty brown ale than a stout. The alcohol content seems pretty low, but not due to state laws since NC "popped the cap" on August 13, 2005. shrubber85 (2934), Wallhalben, Germany
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 4, 2006 Tap. Molasses malt aroma. Dark black-brown color with small head. Smooth chocolate-coffee malt flavor - easy drinking with next to no bitterness. A fairly light stout but one I could drink all day - doesn’t sit heavy on you like some stouts. | 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 29, 2005 On tap at the brewery. Dark, dark brown. Medium to medium light bodied. Very roasty, very dry, very creosotic, mildly acidic. Light creosote aroma. Coffee finish. Porterish, schwarzish. I was about to buy a growler of this, untasted, to haul back to my beer buddies, but I’m glad I didn’t. This beer needs work.
