Jul 4, 2006 Nice smoky malt aroma. Moderate brown with decent head. Smoked malt flavor blended with molasses with a very nice alcohol warming sensation that comes out in the end without any harshness. An extremely well made beer.

Jul 23, 2006 Growler provided by Book-m-Dano. Pours mahogany-chestnut in color with a light white head. Sweet musty aroma with hints of peat and molasses. The flavor follows the aroma with peat, toasted malt, lightly sweet licorice, and a ginger cola finish. Medium round body. Not a bad brew.

Apr 12, 2008 Updated: Apr 15, 2008Growler from the brewery. Pours a brownish red color with a huge frothy beige head. Aroma is light. Flavor is caramel and roast. Very light on the hops with a strong alcohol finish. This was the best batch yet. Rerate, after it was in the growler for a couple days the carbonation diminished greatly but the hop character came out and the alcohol wasn’t as harsh, don’t know why. Congrats to Dieter for winning a bronze metal on his Weise Gnome Hefeweizen this weekend in Hickory.

Jul 17, 2007 on tap-pours a light tan head and amber/brown color. Aroma is malt-caramel. Taste is malt-caramel, smoky, good secondary hops, alcohol just noticeable.

pours brown/ruby with thin bewige head.
aroma and taste, roasted malts, brown sugar, light fruity notes; figs, med carbonation with some lingering sweetness in teh finish.Found it to be an interesting approach to the style and definitely keeps elements of their pilsener base they use to brew their beers. Too bad that at 7.5abv some of the ingredients seem too muted.

Oct 24, 2005 Light Brown, foamy head. Aroma of bread, but kinda tart, too. Smooth and mellow, with a cola-ish flavor and a hint of molasses. Thin bodied (in a good way) and quaffable. Not bad.
