Commercial Description:
Available cold filtered in 500ml bottles. Occasionally available in the cask.
"Iron Horse is a strong pale ale hand crafted at the beer station from a complex grist of roasted malts and English hops. This gives a full flavour with a traditional Sussex hoppy nose to the beer."

500 ml bottle. Pours dark amber. Small beige head.Caramel-sented malts are prominent, vanilla and spicey hops in the nose, as well. Flavor is sharply hoppy, metallic. Not much balance with the malt. A tiny bit of malt sweetness somewhere in there. I do enjoy the hop bite. But a little bit one-dimensional. Not much flavor beyond the hop presence. Wish I could try it on cask, sure it would have a lot more character.

Bottle, poured a clear amber with a white filmy head. A sweet malty aroma with notes of licorice. A good gravelly malt flavour with a good medium mouthfeel.

A Mes rate: Bottle from Sainsburys.
Unusual brown amber colour with a very good head and lots of chunky lacing. Almost a 4 for looks. Sadly the rest doesn’t live up to the promise of the looks. Hoppy but mellow nose. Sweet malts that are just a little to acrid. Then hops and not much else. Boring but not awful.

Bottle, picked up at the Dodgy Deli’, Cowley Rd, Oxford, 15-09-06. Amber, with small white head, some malt on the aroma, good body and very tasty, really enjoyed this beer, some fruits and malt shine through but with a nice flourish of hops at the finish.

Bottle. The pour presented a spare, fizzy head atop a light orange, clear body. The aroma was mostly malts — grain, straw, cereal, celery with some slightly sweet notes. The flavor was only a little sweet with hints of grass and grain and mostly bitter in the finish. Moderate dryness. Medium body is somewhat oily. Uninteresting.

Bought in London: Pours a sunny orange with a frothy head. The nose is lightly peppered with flowery hops as well as light notes of caramel and toffee. Medium bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. The body is light throughout -caramel malts being the most defined. A fine drinker, but nothing to dive to deep into.

Bottle. Nice looking clear amber with a slim off-white head. Floral hops and fruit in the aroma. Taste is malty, fruity with a (very) late and long hoppy bitter finish. Medium bodied: very drinkable; good stuff.

Bottle from Sainsburys. Dark copper colour with thin white head. Ggod toffee malt aroma with smoothish feel in mouth. Good hop bitter finish with bit of vanilla and bit of orange peel
