This beer is very good for a helles, but rating to enjoyment..average. Aroma was very floral. Almost smelled like a dozen roses. Pour was a light to medium gold with no head. Taste was very caramelly. Almost Sugar Daddy taste in the front and the watery finish drowned out all the flavor. Little carbonation and just a hint of caramel in the aftertaste. This beer tasted like it was thrown together at the last minute.

Picked up a 22-oz bomber from the brewpub in Wausau, Wisconsin. Pours a clear golden pale brew with a fast dissolving white head that leaves behind a fine film and a white ring. Aroma of light golden grain malt, some grassy hop character with a touch of honey. Taste is light to medium bodied, light carbonation with flavors of light bread malt, some citrus zest with grassy hops. Finish is slightly dry, light, crisp, clean cut with hardly any aftertaste.

On tap at the Wausau brewpub on 6/24/07: Clear bright golden color with a well-lacing, effervescent white head. Aroma of grainy pale German malts and light noble hops. Body starts faintly sweet and tart with some earthy noble hop balance and biting carbonation toward a thinner, drier finish. Needs to be crisper and a little more hoppy.

Pours lighter orange yellow in my glass. This was on tap at the H&H in Cranberry, near PGH PA. Here they renamed it the ’black & gold helles’ after the steelers. Should not be too bitter, the bar card says it has an ibu of 20. I can barely sense any aroma, but it is noticable. Its a kind of slight fruity hint. Head fades to a small white rim that sticks to the sides of the glass. An odd initial flavor awaits you, Not real bitter but not real lager like either. Kind of interesting personality. A metallic or industrial flavor that you easiy appriciate. Has some good personality for a helles. Finish is OK but does have some lingering bitterness to it. The bitterness fades rapildy and does not hang around like many ales.

Had this at the H and H on 228 in cranberry, pa. Poured clear gold color with small amount of fizzy white head. Aroma was grassy and hoppy, flavor light and refreshing yet not all water. Overall, enjoyable with the spicey ribs.

I am not generally a fan of this style but this was an exceptional example - and ended up being the pick of the litter. Sampled on draft at the Cranberry Twp PA location this beer poured a pale yellow color with a medium sized white head. The aroma is crisp floral hops. The flavor is sharp and crisp floral hops with a lightly sweet and tangy malty finish. A nice session beer.
