This looks like my kind of beer. It even smells and tastes like my kind of beer. Lots of fresh (not burnt) malt with a nice balance of hops and just a dash of vanilla/toffee. The trouble is that it tastes like they took this nice beer and then mixed it with water. There’s a good beer in there, but it takes some work to find it.

Sampled at ABR 07 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Pours a semi-hazy dark brown brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that quickly dissipates to a fine film and white ring. Aroma of roasted multi-grain malt, some flowery hops and a touch of vanilla. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonated with flavors of dark roasted caramel malt, some flowery hops, some mild fruit character and a touch of vanilla. Finish is light, semi-dry with a multigrain malt aftertaste. Probably the best sampling from Herkimer at the ABR.

Draft @ Brewpub: Dark mahogany, no head or lacing. Nose of light roast and plum, very dry. Flavor is dry too, a bit husky a light roast note coming through. Thin, meh.
