Aroma of light nuts, pecan and almond. Flavor is mostly of a toasted malt, some coffee, a tiny bit of toffee and sugar. Mostly watery, coffee palate. Not reminiscent of a dunkel, but rather a dunkel gone scotch ale or stout. Light, carbonated mouthfeel, heavy coffee taste on the finish. maniac (2678), Richmond, Virginia, USA

Rather sweet beer overall. Flavor is sweet malt and chocolate some roasted nut. Little bit of hops in the finish. Pretty decent dunkel. Service at the bar could be a little better though. It even smells and tastes like my kind of beer. Lots of fresh (not burnt) malt with a nice balance of hops and just a dash of vanilla/toffee. The trouble is that it tastes like they took this nice beer and then mixed it with water. There’s a good beer in there, but it takes some work to find it. Skyview (4095), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 28, 2007 Sampled at ABR 07 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Pours a semi-hazy dark brown brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that quickly dissipates to a fine film and white ring. Aroma of roasted multi-grain malt, some flowery hops and a touch of vanilla. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonated with flavors of dark roasted caramel malt, some flowery hops, some mild fruit character and a touch of vanilla. Finish is light, semi-dry with a multigrain malt aftertaste. Probably the best sampling from Herkimer at the ABR. BDR (2170), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
