Pours a clear coppery amber brew with a thin off-white head that quickly dissipates to a fine film and white ring. Aroma of sweetened caramel malt, a touch of brown sugar and hardly any flowery hop character. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonated with some sweet caramel malt flavors. Finish is slightly watery with a sweet caramel malt aftertaste. BDR (2159), Roseville, Minnesota, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 27, 2007 Poured from a growler, the beer is a deep copper gold, lightly effervescent, and topped by a thin head of white foam. Slight head retention - it reduces to a thin film in no time - but provides a decent ring with stalagtites of foam lace. The initial aroma is lightly sweet, but then - bang - delicious toasted malt comes into play.
The flavor is similar, but reversed. It is initially toasted, earthy, dry, and delicious, and then a sugary caramel malt comes in and holds strong into the finish. Ultimately a hair too sweet for my preference - the sweetness plays the trump card in the end.
Medium body, moderate but effective carbonation. Mild and smooth. Sweeter and maltier than the ’everyday’ Red Flyer Marzen.
