Cocoa and espresso nose.
Tasty dark malts, black, chocolate, ...chocolate licks into every savory sip, with dark cherries lurking below
Neatly bitter up front, then smooth.
Good gritty texture, with flavor never flagging, unlike so many other offering I’ve encountered here.
My notes were short, but the impression long lasting, and this, a very good and proper schwarzbier, was the best beer I’ve had at this pub, and one that is starting to change my thoughts on the place.
I’m heading back for more, to find out how the other lagers stack up...

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 31, 2006 Came from the tap with a light brown medium head. Not long after the first sip the head was gone. The beer was pretty dark, not quite black in colour. Served a bit too cold to get a decent analysis of the aroma, but it seemed to consist of a bit of smoke or roasted malt, no hops present. The body was very...lagerish...a bit thin but clean and drinkable. Again roasted type malts in the flavour, a bit on the sweet side, which makes it more drinkable, with only a slight bitter finish. badgerben (3600), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 11, 2004 Black color with a thin head. Slight aroma of smoke. The taste is a little malty, but has a bit of sweet in it. Hmm... there are a few different things going on with this beer and it’s a little hard to nail down. I want to say sweet, but it’s also a bit dry and maybe salty. Weird... interesting and worth a try! robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 11, 2004 Nice Atmosphere at The Herkimer, and Very Close to Bryant Lake Bowl, Which Has a VERY nice beer selection including Belgians. Have to Buy By the Pint Here...Tooler’s Weisse Seems To Be The Best That I’ve Encountered So Far, but Their Pilsner and Handy’s Were Definitly Decent for What They Were. The Offered This Schwarzbier Instead of the Usual Kolsch. Very Decent Brew. Not a Ton of Flavor. Just a Smooth, Easy Brew to Drink Alot of. Malt and Hops..Just a Pinch Dry. Lacking Alot of Character but Very Drinkable Overall.
