Black colour with ruby edges. Bubbly tan head. The Ashford sample had too much butter on the aroma for me. Sourish in mouth, but the dominated by butter/caramel. Faint dark malts make their way through, but I wasn’t keen. The Canterbury sample was similar but a little less butter/caramel. Still not something I would want again.1.5/5.0
Re-rate County Hotel, Ashford. So much better. Decent black stout, more like a dunkel really. MesandSim (5851), London, Greater London, England

The could not be any blacker. Creamy caramel in the nose. Tangy and very sweet in the mouth. Slight sourness with some blackcurrant and salt. Odd stuff. Was a little dissapointed and i’m hoping that maybe this wasn’t in the best condition. Aroma is roasty and sweet, with some light sourness. Palate was a little sour, but with some underlying roasty sweetness, which was quite pleasant. I will look to try this again at another Wetherspoons, just to make sure it wasn’t the condition of the beer at this pub. maeib (4725), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England

Very dark brown with a slight film of a head. Sweet and sour aroma. The taste is sour, lemony, smokey and cheesy with a little sweetness. Full of flavours, though the overall impression is odd and muddled. 27.2.08 at ’Spoons, Milton Keynes. Tasted like a coffee milkshake made with sour milk. Hated it. Rated 6,3,2,1,5:1.7
